I have been experiencing alot of fluctuation in speeds and pings over the past few months and was wondering if anyone has any input.. I have been a pc tech and computer programmer for like 10 years and this one has me stumped.. There is no time of day that it happens, it just happens.
I have replaced everything in my house, router, homephone, filters, and laptop and still it persists.. My local telephone company TELSTRA has already been out and said everything is 100%. Im going to cancel this shit soon if they don't sort it.
Here are my latest speed test results.
UPDATE: These problems only started 3 months ago when my phone line was corroded outside my house. The tech came out and replaced the line (well so he said), and i was just glad to get my internet back on. From then onwards all I noticed was nothing but bad online gaming and downloads speeds ever since.
TEST 1
TEST 2: 17 Minutes Later
TEST 3: 3 Minutes after test 2
TEST 4: After a reset of the router
TEST 5: Another reset and new IP - wow great ping
TEST 6: Another reset and new IP - terrible again
TEST 7: off peak 2:28am - back to nearly normal
AND here is what my STABLE connection used to look like:
I have gotten higher results like 11.65MB but thats only ever been in OFF PEAK 12am - 9am times.. Normall 10.05 - 10.65.
it never ever went below 10mb, EVER!
My guess is that it is either congestion at my exchange and it needs to be upgraded, or my line still has issues. Any thoughts? _________________________________________________________ HQ Network:

If they are anything like here they ran 1 line to 3 or more junction boxs basicaly cutting you to one third. Houses far apart from each other have the best internet here but condos, apartments and stratas get screwed.
Another option is the router/hub I switched my Belkin out for an SMC and my speeds jumped phenomonaly.
Last option which is quite common here is traffic shapeing. Anything they deem as a potential clog on the system (mainly news groups and torrents) get choked, but I have noticed slow times on Live as well.

With DSL here they promise a single dedicated connection not shared with "the neighbors" but at some point it must share a router with some others in town you would think. I live in a very small town and cable is more popular than DSL so I do not experience any ups and downs, just a perfect consistent connection so far.
I am guessing you still have some corroded wires somewhere. To bad I can't help you fix them, it just happens to be my nack to fix wiring.
I actually did the wiring with and for the DSL tech that was here. We said screw the original phone wiring and ran a new high quality line direct from the pole to house with nothing in between right to the DSL router. Well, it works like a charm. _________________________________________________________ 10% VIP Discount (Coupon Code: HQ-VIP-001 ) - Signup for web hosting at www.TweakedHosting.com/clients/aff.php?aff=004 and earn the HQ network of sites recurring income!

ok, I had the tech here all morning and like he said to me, I have one of the best ADSL connections around so he is going to make sure i get the best from it.. I don't live too far from the exchange, probably 1 mile if that, so he told me he is going to change my PORT at the exchange.
It seems like the router/hub at the exchange has some issues on this port. He changed over like 10 minutes ago and ever since i have been stable again.. god i hope it holds..

That's great, Forahobby! Must have been such a pain. Glad they found the problem. It is sure true single ports on routers can go bad, repaired some in my time. _________________________________________________________ 10% VIP Discount (Coupon Code: HQ-VIP-001 ) - Signup for web hosting at www.TweakedHosting.com/clients/aff.php?aff=004 and earn the HQ network of sites recurring income!

I've been really worried about it for like 3months now, and it's been phone call after phone call. They kept telling me it was my equipment when i knew it wasn't..
