Sources say Sony originally planned $500 PS4, but scuttled plans to include camera with every unit to bring price down below Microsoft.
Multiple sources have told IGN that Sony originally planned to launch the PlayStation 4 at $500.
However, in the months leading up to E3, Sony reportedly abandoned plans to include a PlayStation Eye camera with every unit, thus bringing the price down to $400--a full $100 below Microsoft's Xbox One.

I wonder what they will charge for the eye toy? There is a difference. MS took out the once every 24hr connection, brought back the normal trading of games based on customer feedback. Sony removing the Eye Toy from the PS4 package and lowering the price had nothing to do with customer feedback. M$ cowered out due to everyone calling them assholes for that little drm plot.
How many times do I have to say that M$ would sell more if they just made kinect optimal, it's common sense not everyone will give a rats ass about kinect. It may be true they could sell more xbox ones if the Kinect was not included and the initial price was less but then anyone who wants a Kinect would have to pay more than the current great deal.
Well they could offer different bundles to try to make everyone happy and ultimately confuse the end users. I think they want things more simple this time around.
MS had too many different 360 boxes. They should have never offered the stupid 4 or 8 gig that they did. Dumbest thing ever.
Maybe the PS4 will have multiple packages. Sony made a smart move for making it OPTIONAL.

As has been explained to you before, which you just don't get, That $100 get's you a $150 Kinect, hundreds of thousands of servers, xbox live network, xbox one and so forth. It's fine by me if you are happy with with only 10,000 servers, no Kinect and the plus network (should be called the minus network).
It's no sweat off my back if you can't deal with reality.
Tons of people will care.
