Microsoft seems to be making a habit out of shooting itself in the foot.

With gamers still smarting over the company’s $499 pricing announcement for the Xbox One, the head of the Xbox division has ruffled more feathers in addressing concerns about the system’s demand for a internet connection.

"We have a product for people who aren't able to get some form of connectivity - it's called Xbox 360," Don Mattrick told Geoff Keighley on GameTrailers.

While Mattrick was likely attempting to point out that Microsoft will continue to support its existing console for some time, the somewhat flippant nature of his comment came across as dismissive to the fans who have voiced concerns about the system’s need to check in online every 24 hours.

With internet connectivity becoming ubiquitous throughout the country -- and many parts of the world (at least, the ones Microsoft is targeting with the Xbox One) -- the company thinks some of the outcry over the requirement is overstated.

“When I read the blogs and they talked about who’s really most impacted, it was a person who said ‘Hey, I’m on a nuclear sub’,” said Mattrick. “I don’t even know what it means to be on a nuclear sub, but I’ve got to imagine it’s not easy to get an Internet connection.”

Despite the PR tempest, Microsoft says pre-orders for the Xbox One are strong. Amazon has told the company that it has nearly sold out of its initial allocation of units (though how large that allocation is was not disclosed).

And Yusuf Mehdi, SVP of the Interactive Entertainment Business, told Yahoo! Games that while the Xbox One will cost more than the PS4, the company believes consumers will look beyond the price tags.

“It isn’t just about price,” he says. “It’s about value. It’s the value for the price. What I believe is we have incredible value for the price we’re offering our system. And I think it’s unmatched compared to other things.”

Still even slow internet is available nearly everywhere, DSL, 56k and so on. To play games on xbox one all you need is a once every 24 hour check-in. This is in reach of nearly everyone.

That's what Microsoft should have said. Microsoft also should have been more bold and told us they want everything online. If you want to be completely offline then don't get a xbox one, it's your choice. The funny thing is, the people complaining about this are online people anyway. Talk about hypocritical.

lol no. Those people want to be able to play offline every once in a while. What's hypocritical about that. Not everyone wants to power on a gaming console every day of there life. lol

I have never been a Play station fan. Not really cared for it. But, if I was to buy a console and had to pick between the two, I would take the PS4.

PS will let me just have a next gen console to play my games on and leave me alone. But MS wants to control every thing you do. Forcing shit on its customers. Not cool. I am hoping the Xbox One really suffers. Maybe even goes down in history as a catastrophic failure. So many restrictions, why would you bother if you have a choice?

By just posting this list of support countries you have failed to inform the users that this is the initial launch phase.

Other counties will be supported in 2014 and more and more will be added. During the whole console history this has been the norm. Microsoft is doing an innovative and aggressive thing here with the cloud which is why some other countries will have to wait a short period longer to get xbox one. In short time, after the xbox one launch, we will all see just how great this is going to be for gaming.

For proof on addition counties supported, here's one article that talks about when Asia will get the xbox one. you Jasan is not yet mentioned but you can be guaranteed they will get it too.

Yes and PS4 is launching a much less aggressive network and there will far less innovation anytime soon from the the Sony camp. xbox live uses will have the better of the 2 experiences for online and enhanced gaming. Microsoft approach will be well rewarded in the long run and so will the xbox one users
