I remember a few years ago when everyone went ape shit over alienware thinking it was top of the line, I kind of got to thinking more and more people are building their own rigs that can do just what a high end top of line gaming pc can do now. Kinda hard to word this but I'm thinking people aren't really caring anymore about what's top of the line, I've seen a thousand dollar pcs do what 5 thousand dollar pcs can do and I couldn't tell much of a difference. Besides being a bit faster and look cooler.
So do you really care about what's considered High end or are you happy with your games just clocking in 100fps?
Do we really need high end shit anymore?

Developers and designers etc need high end rigs not the end home user. That's why consoles are taking off more and more. They are half the price, games are compatible for years and years and no hardware upgrades.
Don't get me wrong though, I have a high end laptop and i enjoy Battlefield 3 at the highest FPS and screen res, but when it comes down to convenience, i always end up back on the 360 for now, soon the infinity or fusion (whatever it may be).
Guys like me who use photoshop 64bit, code applications and use alot of the advanced features of a computer will get the most out of a high end computer, everyone else might as well just build a cheap equivalent and overclock the shit out of it.

anyway, just my two cents, sorry i missed your thread!
You can still do all that stuff on a midrange gaming pc, the 7770 card can get you around 100fps.

You can do MOST of that stuff yes, but when it really comes to 24 hours a day performance i still go for high end. Nothing lasts like it used to either does it..
Even on my 64 bit machine with 16gb ram and 3d graphics card etc, it sometimes lags a little when im encoindg a video, have photoshop open and doing some coding work. I couldn't live without this machine now!

Hows your new pc going? Was it worth it? It sounded like you were very happy!
For video editing and stuff like that yeah you pretty mucn need high end everything, I'm speaking for the general gamer, back in the day you had to whip out 5grand for a pc just for it to do anything now you can build a basic rug for under a thousand.
And yeah it's going great, just needs a cooler and video card the apu is fine for now was playing tomb raider on it and hardly had any lag.
New laptop should be here today also.
