Hi all this is Halofan102 from xbox-hq,

I was wondering if any smart programmers out there (cough cough SPPV) have found any potential game save exploits in the 360 in order to load softmod dashboards like with the original xbox?

If so could you link me to the xbox softmod tutorials?

I'd rather not play with turning the device on and off, like with hotswapping, that seems too risky.

I'd also rather avoid hard-modding with a 360, until I get some practice with my spare original xbox and ask about the details for the on the xbox-hq site.

Thanks for all your help guys, I definitely want to donate, provided the files for modding with an original xbox work out for me!

The "softest" modding you can do is to flash the firmware of your dvd drive to play backups.

The hardest is to Jtag/RHG which requires soldering on the motherboard but it will allow you to run homebrew apps like Xbox1

Will someone ever be able to discover a possible exploit for softmodding?

Or does it require many years of trial and error by hackers?

How much time from the release date of xbox did it take for people to discover an original xbox could be modded?

I don't think it will ever be possible the current method of flashing a dvd drive is easy enough imo. it sounds hard but it really isnt.

You can't run any other dashboards or homebrew by flashing the DVD drive. Flashing the drive just allows you to play non-modified Xbox 360 games on a burnt disc.

In order to run homebrew (emulators, patches, dashboards, etc) it is required that you perform either the JTAG exploit or RGH (Reset Glitch Hack), which both require a bit a soldering skill with circuit boards.

The chances of a softmod exploit being found are slim although nothing is impossible, just don't get your hopes up, the chances are one in a million.

Edit - I think TX released a soldering chip that allows you to extract the firmware from the mobo

There always xkeys also

You don't understand, softmod is being able to install homebrew on your console, like JTag but without chips and soldering

Well I guess M$ did a better job this time of preventing people to softmod 360s so effortlessly like the Xbox 1. Too bad for us lol.

I don't know if I'll ever want to buy a 360 personally. They scratch the disks and they red-ring so much.

I've had my N64 for 16 years and it's still kicking and an xbox 1 that's 7 years old and already softmodded and will be able to run old emulators soon. Yay!
