DJB and I will be working on a tutorial this weekend which may help those of you looking to run games from a USB HDD. We plan to write a complete tutorial, from start to finish, explaining the steps. This is a placeholder until it's complete.
x360Key is a new custom linux system which will soon allow you to play all your Xbox 360 (and Xbox 1) games from any USB device. x360key consists of 2 parts, a motherboard and a remote.

In phat consoles I recommend using the front USB port. _________________________________________________________

DJB has an old Xbox 360 ELITE (black in color), with you guessed it, a lite-on drive which i luckily have a probe to get the key for.
WHen you say you recommend using the front USB? More info would be nice.
Since my hacking machine died, DJB and I had to spend this weekend rebuilding it and getting all the latest stuff installed.
I'd say i wont get back to it till next weekend now, i need to relax a little before i get back to work. But really all i need to do is get his key and firmware saved, and the rest looks like a piece of cake. I will be getting my own after i test out DJB's. _________________________________________________________ HQ Network:

*bump*
I know your away busy at work mate, so i thought id remind you. I got DJB's machine apart now, and am ready to backup the liteon firmware, since you need the full firmware for phat's. If it was a slim you only need the key i think.
anyway, i will be writing a comprehensive tutorial once it has been completed successfully.
Basic steps so far are:
1. Buy your new x360key
2. Dismantled your Xbox 360
3a. If you have a PHAT backup your complete DVDROM firmware and unique key.
3b. If you have a SLIM backup your firmware and grab your key.
4. Copy the firmware or key onto the x360key microSD card.
5. Now the fun part. Putting the xkey in. heheh should be pretty easy.

hey mate, so the xk3y have a FFC to USB adapter, in phat consoles you have to choose if you wanna use the front USB ports or the usb port from the back the console.
I recommend using the front port otherwise you wont be able to use Kinect.
Here's a pic of a rear instalation I made on a friend's console and pic of my console installed in front usb port _________________________________________________________

Thanks for the headsup but I have one question for you.
Can I still backup the key of this Lite-On 74850C using the same method i used years ago, or has something changed now, with the firmware update on this drive?
I plan to follow my old tutorial to extract the key and firmware from the DJB's drive. The drive is a Lite-On 74850C. I need the full firmware and not just the key and from what I've been reading you need to perform what is called the MRA hack. mmm something new for me.
Got any advice or an updated tutorial?
update:
I don't need to perform the MRA hack since all original firmware dumps are included in the JungleFlasher firmware packs.. Oh, i feel dumb, forgot about that. So it looks like i just need the key.. So really i need to get the key and then im setup to install, sweet! DJB should be happy if we get the key now. _________________________________________________________ HQ Network:

so you haven't done a PHAT Lite-On 74850C for a while i guess? From what I can gather so far, if the lite-on drive has had the September 2011 Xbox LIVE Update, you cannot use my old tutorial to grab the key using the kreon connectivity kit.
I gave it a go, but always failed to verify the key, I think we need to get a Probe 3. anyone got some tips before i waste my money.
