I'll start with what I can until the Big Doggs arrive. First off, Welcome to Xbox360-HQ, the best Xbox 360 community around. This is a great site and you will always get answers as fast as someone can get to the question. You can't mod a 360 with a thumb drive. Only the PS3 is capable of that, due to a massive lacking of security. You must open it up and perform the mod physically(No ifs, ands, or buts about it). Doing so requires a decent amount of soldering to flash your 360's firmware. Allowing it to run homebrew/mods. There are a few methods to do so. That being said, you must also have a compatible Xbox for this flashing of your firmware to take place. You will need to go to your settings menu in your 360 dash and see what version you have to determine which method you need to use. Those methods being the JTAG method and the "Reset Glitch" method.
Running Hacked/modded firmware is a huge No-No to Microsoft and is very strongly advised to not go onto LIVE with such firmware. This is a proven formula to get your console banned. My advice on that note, is to have a separate Xbox for LIVE gaming. I'm not sure how players are modding on the games you mentioned, as I do not play them, but I wouldn't recommend attempting it. Just play hard and get your skill up like the pros do. _________________________________________________________

Hi lordjade008 and welcome to the HQ's!
Dkoots has given you some great advice there. You can mod your console but you may find yourself getting banned if you connect online. If you are going to mod your 360 you need to decide what you are going to mod it for.
JTAG or RGH Mod:
If you decide to go this route with your xbox 360 you'll be able to load homebrew dashboards, emulators and other cool stuff made by the community.
Firmware Mod:
All this does is allows you to play backup games and it will get you banned from Xbox LIVE if you don't know what you're doing. _________________________________________________________ HQ Network:
