I just found an interesting news clip that says you need to have the HD in order to play regular XBOX games on the 360. I posted the article here so READ UP!! It's realy interesting, it's the one that says A to Z of the 360. It looks like you will have to pop the extra $100 to play your current games on the 360. _________________________________________________________
I am assuming that is due to the emulator that you must download.

Emulator... yes... Heheheheh *sniffin the air, he smells the ps2 emu not too far down the road* Yes, you need the HDD. But if you buy the wonderful Pimped package for 400 you're saving yourslef 240 dollars. You get the wireless, the hdd, the remote control (media center style) battery, charger and the live headset... and I think a memory card... Thats what I was thinking. Thats why I didnt get the core system from circuit city friday. I dont want one THAT bad...lol

I will be purchasing my PIMPED edition at Walmart on Tueday. That kind of cost savings justified me not buying the core system online at circuity city!
