As of this morning, Microsoft released a new update through Live that unflash all drives making them go back as they were originally was.
So far there's 2 solutions to this problem:
1) Accept and install the patch and then you need to reflash your drive to play backups again.
2) Keep playing Offline till you're forced to make the update from a new game in about a month or two. Then you will have to reflash your 360 again.
Either way, any modder is screwed, we will all need to reflash our consoles in the next 2 months.
Also, games who has AP25 such as Modern Warfare 2, CoD: Black OPS, Halo Reach and many others will have to get repatched and reburn for them to work again. There's no ETA as when the new AP25 patch for all those specific games will be release. _________________________________________________________

What drive do you have? _________________________________________________________
I wonder what would happen if someone were to disconnect the SATA cord going from the DVD drive to their xbox. What we really need is a chip with a clone flash on it, where the update would actually flash the chip and not the DVD drive.. But, chances of a device like that are pretty low.
UPDATE:
Reflashes the DVD drives : PLDS DG-16D4S, PBDS VAD6038 and PLDS DG-16D2S, to a new stock firmware : 0272, 04421C, 02510C. Those are the only drives the new update will flash. _________________________________________________________

Does anyone know would it be possible for me to hook a messed drive up for doing updates so I dont have to worry about getting flashed back to stock?
I actualy dont even know what drive I have in it I just traded a modded xbox for it and he said it was flashed to play backups (I dont currently have any so I cant confirm , would a burned XBOX1 game work for testing the flash?) and have an s for online so I dont care about live and stuff like that on it and can play the new ones like COD black ops on the s

good to know, thx for the info, no doubt they cant flash every single drive, but they will be able to in the near future. Its not exactly hard to flash your hacked box again anyway.
When my retail 360 was updated it made all sorts of dvdrom noises which is not normal, it was definitely reflashed. _________________________________________________________ HQ Network:

Grrr! I had just gotten 3 of my consoles flashed last week. BAM! Now, neither of them play my backups. It's killin' me on the shipping back & forth thing to get them updated. But alas, such is the nature of our community. lol _________________________________________________________ Don't give up! NEVER give up. -- Jim Valvano

I'm pretty sure my box has a benq inside it, will this mean its definitely going to get flashed if i update?

If it has one of the following drives I mentioned, then yes, but it will be flashed to a updated firmware, not the stock firmware. Although that still will remove your ability to play backed up games. _________________________________________________________
