Hello everyone, I've been stumped on a problem with my buddy's PC while streaming movies to his 360 and original xbox. Sometimes it works fine but the majority of the time his PC will freeze tight and would have to hit the reset or power button. We have tried a few different things, fans on the HDD, clean the whole PC, tried different drivers, reinstall windows.. It's a fairly new PC, quad core AMD, radeon 5770 HD, 8GB ram, so we know it wouldn't really be a speed issue. We tried wired and wireless and same results on both. I was thinking the onboard nic was bad, and I think the wireless is an add on card I'm not 100% on that though, I was saying possibly try a different add on card or something and see if it has the same results. Anybody ever seen anything like this, or maybe have some other ideas to try that we didn't think of?? _________________________________________________________

how many codec packs do you have installed on the pc? and also what media server are you running on the pc, like tversity or wmp? AND is it locking up on all formats, or just just .mkv or hd wmv files.
edit: don't think its a rig problem, it's definitely software.
I think he doesn't have any packs installed, if he does it might be XP codec pack, using only wmp, and locks on any format that the 360 will play (he usually streams DivX). It's a pretty strange issue to me. _________________________________________________________

If you are running TVERSITY media server (FREE) or WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER my suggetion would be to install all the codecs at once using one of the all-in-one codec packs available on the net.. Once you have the codecs installed do some tests watching the video on the local pc in different formats.
Then boot the 360 and test streaming some media.
If it continues to lock up i would go into the "System Blade" -> HDD and remove the "OPTIONAL MEDIA UPDATE" then re-install it
let us know how you go. I have had freezing issues in the past but i got them fixed after doing the process i explained.. At the time i was running TVERSITY.
A fairly cheap alternative is to do what i have done and purchased a NAS server which streams everything to your xbox 360, ps3 or any other pc on your network.. http://www.qnap.com have some nice small/home business ones and all sorts.. depends on your budget i guess. _________________________________________________________ HQ Network:

ya, the CCCP codec pack is the best. On Tversity's forum, I was looking for a fix for playing .mkv files with subs and found out about CCCP. It's even recommended more than the codec pack that comes packaged with it.
I'm intrigued now, keep us up on it and what worked
