Ok, so I been doing my research on parts for my next build. I had my heart set on several SSD's in Raid 0 configuration. But it turns out that there is no way to run SSD's in Raid and still have trim support on the SSD's.
Trim is what keeps the cells in the drive clean and organized, Keeps all the junk information off the drive etc. Without Trim, A blazing fast SSD will gradually become sluggish thus making the SSD not so great.
Many SSD's now have trim capability so it is not much of a problem for these drives to maintain long term performance, as long as they are not raided.
So SSD in raid is out for me.
I want the fastest Read/Write performace I can get for my next build.
So I was wondering, whats would be faster, a single nice SSD or 4 high end HDD's in Raid 0?
well I came across a benchmark for 4 raptors in Raid 0, they achieved a read/write speed of just under 350MB/s Read and just under 300MB/s write. Not too bad.
Ok so then looked up what is considered the top SSD right now, the Crucial RealSSD C300., Read speed 355MB/s 215MB/s
Then I came across the PCI-e SSD cards and have a bit of a hard on for the OCZ RevoDrive X2.
As far as the PCI-e cards go, its on the lower end of the lineup. But it puts the best SSD drive to shame. Twice the Read speed, and just over 3 times the write speed!
The RevoDrive X2 has Read / Write speeds of ....
Read 740MB/s, Write 690MB/s, Not too shabby, and I think I would be happy with this performance.
The Revo X2 is just over $500 and at about the max I want to spend on a working drive, (I will have another separate SSD or HDD for storage)
The PCI-e cards gradually go up in speed but the price goes up Exponentially. The next card up has same read speed and only 30MB/s faster in write. Yet is Double the price, Heck, one of the cards is twice as fast but costs almost 18 times the price, nearly 10 grand!
But the Revo X2 is looking pretty good to me right now.
If I do not come across any problems or something better, I think it may be my Drive for running my programs
Now, the card is considered internally Raid 0 I believe and I read somewhere that it does not have TRIM but Does have Garbage collection, which I think does the same thing. So I will have to do more research on that issue to make sure.
Anyone here using or have used these type of cards?
Would be interested to hear your thoughts/experiences.

Never used 1 of these drives.
Solid state....means no moving parts..So yea no moving parts so less chance of it going wrong. We no enything that moves or turns on a pc brakes down 1st.
And on the 360
Ie fans hard drives,DVD rom drives(they have moveing parts)so they just wear OUT.
Some net books also have solid state hard drives(the net books that have these drives)Can be pain to work on, because the hard drive is fixed to the mother board..And can not be removed,so if the hard drive gos down so dose the mother board.Evan so the solid state drive dose last longer because ther are no moving parts.
Having a faster hard drive on a PCI-Express connection, solid state....?
Not cheap.
But hey at least you can remove a PCI-Express(card) hard drive, from the MOB if it gos down and replace it with another 1.
this is the one i was interested in getting as it was under $300 a while go now its back to 309 and out of stock but i wish i had the money when it was $249 they had it at one time. As i look at all the other ssd drives out there a 120gb ssd non pci is about $180-299 depending on brand and speed but there speed was not as good as those revo drives 120gb revo x1 500mb read 490mb write was 2x times faster then any of the ssd going via sata even in 6gb boards and the price was not that far off from it so im waiting a couple more months the prices will drop a lot more then i be picking up mine. Sucks though cus it uses the same slot as a capture card i want and my mobo only has that 1x slot i think i have to look again. If i get that raring up a 7gb file probably only take me 5mins instead of 20mins ha were my old computer that was highend not even a year or so ago took 3hrs which i thought was still fast compared to a lot of computers. I am still happy with my setup now and in no rush to get a ssd yet. _________________________________________________________ The one the only Scarface!!
