Hi guys.
I wounder if any of you manage to play an 1080p movie on xbox 360.
Streaming doesn't seems the solution because it will probably require a super CPU to make a live trans-code.
Converting - I dont know but converting a 1080p 20G movie must take more than 24hours.
Changing the container is obviously the best solution. I only found an app called GOTsent but it seems that may work.
Anyone made any test with it.
Also is there a better application than that one. (if possible for linux)
You could try using a USB Stick, that should do good with High Definition since USB2 can transfer at high rates. If you need to use streaming, you can use Internet Connection Sharing and you will get a very high speed aswell. That's what I usually do when I need to transfer to another computer on my same network. And it doesent waste bandwidth at the same time.

Ohh, then you could try the Internet Connection Sharing method, I get about 8MB's Maximum of upload. But when its running through my network I would be luck to get at least 2-3MB's. _________________________________________________________

i read up on this recently, mkv is a container, you can get a program XenonMKV to convert mkv into i think an mp4 so you can stream it via tversity.
is my source for this info as im yet to try it myself, as i dont have a hd tv yet i just use my laptop for hd
edit - apparently this program doesnt take long to convert, im going to test it out momentarly on my intel i3 2.13ghz 3gb ram will let u know how long it takes

apparently the xbox will not recognise files larger then 4gb,which i seem to remember hobbs mentioning in a post ages ago!! this program splits the mkv up into chunks so that it can run it did take a while to convert a 4.7gb 720p rip, and it did need to split it into two files,
started converting at 1.55am finished @ i couldnt be bothered to finish it lol, but it looks like each 2.3gb chunk took about 15mins to convert and it converts each chunk sequentially. the first chunk was converted into an mp4 and played via windows media player, so im assuming this would work via streaming with tveristy, media player or what ever other solution you have.
i was successful at streaming this via tversity.edit - to xbox 360 !!

Yep but I will probably stick with GOTsent simply because it supports subtitles and I manage to get it working in Linux _________________________________________________________

Hi guys,
To watch my HD videos which are in various formats i normally just stream them from my NAS SERVER or from a USB drive.
I have HD-DVD .wmv's which work perfect but most if not all other content needs to be re-encoded to XVID or DIVX.
For watching MKV files on 360 i normally use a FREE program called MKV2AVI which converts the video into whatever format you want.. I then just choose to encode in divx/xvid and leave the screen resolution the same.
this tutorial is old but you get the idea.. If you want to overcome the 4gb filesize limit you need to reformat your hdd so it can be used for larger files.. Otherwise you will need to split up your huge files.

jesus 23gb.. lmfao.. Only other program i have used would be TVERSITY.. tversity can transcode on the fly but you'd need a pretty good machine like you already know.. Unfortunately i don't think they have a linux flavored install for it..
