I made sure to set the folder containing the videos I want to a public share. My Xbox can see the folder, and everything else contained in them except the wmv files I want to watch. I have tried using both Windows Media Center and the Video section of the dashboard.
When I try and access them using a USB stick, the 360 can see the file, yet it gives me that error core.

I checked out the error code and found out that it means the file type is unsupported.

You will more then likely come accross some similar errors while trying to watch DIVX and XVID on the xbox 360 too.. It all depends on how they were encoded and what codec etc.. We did start a forum thread which showed which codecs works and which ones didnt.. Mattster already linked you before but you can check this out from the link below again if you missed it:
