Not sure if this is the correct palce to post this, but question....What should you do if your system gets the red ring of death? I mean for example and this is only example cause I've had the RROD before and i got it repaired by microsoft but say that your warranty is up and you get the red ring and you dont wanna have to buy a new system. Can someone psot a tutorial of how you would open your system and fix the problem? Can you fix the problem if that? Or is your system pretty much done when that happens. Just wanted to bring that up for the newbies in case they dont have the money to buy a brand new system, they can learn to fix it if their warranty is up. _________________________________________________________ The Burninator...

the thing is, i heard awhile back that the reason to the rrod was due to like the cpu or something wasn't sticking together properly. Is that where the X-clamp comes into play? _________________________________________________________ The Burninator...

Yes. But if you dont let your console get hot enought, everything sticks together.
I recomend x-clamp to fix and not prevent

That's why you don't do it wrong. Not that hard to do it right, just don't go at it like a crazy person. _________________________________________________________

In order to do xclamp you have to turn off the fans to melt it, that may damage other stuff, you dont die with the disease you die with the cure

Many of the fixes are really good, maybe temporary, but I've not seen many people talking about totally ruining a system. Besides, if the system is ruined anyway(no warranty), there's little point in not trying to fix one, especially with the recent price drop.
I do find it odd that someone should jump on someone's case for wanting to especially given the nature of this forum.
I just successfully fixed one, so it can be done, I screwed up a decent bit too, and still ended up getting it done and together. To the OP, there are several guides on this site. The one Darth posted looks good, but it's not what I did, as I didn't see it until after I was pretty much done.
There is a bit of technical stuff to doing it, I would read as many guides as I could find on this site and using google( and not do the towel trick, for sure).
The point I'm getting to here is make an informed decision, before deciding on a route. There are two Topic here that you can find threads for fixes, the Modding one(this one) and the hardware / Technical discussion. Check the stickies and other threads that mention RRoD.
