I recently got another 360 that was having the 3rlod. My other 360 was powered by an atx psu, and worked, but I didn't play it because the dvd drive was about shot.

I decided to open the old 360, and remove the parts from the x clamp replacement, and use them on the new 360. Everything went well with the new 360, but now there is a problem with the old one.

I removed the atx psu, since I now have a oem power supply. The wiring wasn't soldered in, other than one wire. They were just pushed into the plug and hot glued.

After removing the psu and trying to turn the old 360 on using the oem psu, it won't power on. The psu just stays in standby mode. I've been over and over the thing, and can't see why it's not working.

I've tried taking the mb out of the case to rule out shorting to the shield. I've checked all the connectors, and no pins are bent. I've tried swapping out the board with the power button, but that isn't it either.

The 360 turned on just fine with the atx psu, but just won't do anything now.

Any suggestions?

UPDATE:

My other 360 decided it no longer wants to work (error 0020) and nothing I do will fix it, so I temporarily wired the atx psu back to this 360, and well.... It works now.

Why would it power up and run with the atx psu, but not even attemp to turn on with the oem psu? It's not the plug, because that's where I put the wires from the atx. I didn't feel like soldering them to the board and have it not work, so I pushed em into the plug to test it out.

I havn't put the heatsinks back ont, or put the mb back in the case yet, but I'm about to in a moment now that it powers up.

I would really like to figure out why this thing will only work with the atx psu though. Also the oem psu is not the problem either. It works fine.

I'm not 100% sure why it wouldn't work bud. I've never ran an ATX psu in place of a standard 360 one.

Could it be a wire from the power plug to the mainboard is shorted or something similar when you wired the ATX one?

Best Regards,

That's what I originally thought. The wires are pushed into the connector though. The only one soldered to the board is the 5v, and it seems to be good.

I got the clamps back on and turned it on, 3 red lights. So ad hacd tightened the heatsinks, and let it overheat, then gave the bolts about a 1/4 turn, and let it cool off for 30 minutes or so.

Now theres just one light, the lower right one, with a secondary error of 1022.

This is really making me angry cus this 360 worked fine before, never froze or anything, and the only thing that was done to it, was the heatsinks were removed to use with the new one. Now it too is giving me problems. I've tried overheating it again, but the outcome is the same.

I'm just wondering why you can't just use the ATX psu to power it?

I am using the atx to power it, but it would have been nice to be able to use the oem psu.

I've been working on it for most of the day, but it refuses to get past the e-74 1022 error. It's strange because as i said, it worked fine. I unscrewed the sinks, they lifted right off with zero resistance, and then it sat until I put the sinks back on. Yet no matter what now, it just gives the same error.

I was going to try my other cable just to rule it out, even though I've been using this cable for the last week, and it has had no problems. However, I can't find my other av cable right now. Must have gotten misplaced when we moved.

I'll keep playing with it, but to be hoenst I'm about to throw both of these godforsaken consoles in the fire pit. Maybe hit ebay and pick up another one, just to have another set of problems to deal with.

I'll tell ya, I love the 360, and I've played both the 360, and the PS3, and I feel that the 360 is a step higher, but I'm fed up with all the problems that come along with the 360.

It's a wonderfull console...............When it actually works.
