With the latest Fall 2007 Update (Dec 4, 2007) all users have the ability to watch DIVX and XVID .avi videos on their xbox 360's. Whoo hoo..
This topic will be used to list all supported codecs which have been tested by our members here.. If you have tested a particular codec on the 360 please let us know by replying to this post so our moderators and admins can edit it and keep it up-to-date.
If you want to check what codec a .avi file is using download this handy tool called GSpot which will tell you all about your video file.
MEMBERS:
If you receive an error code when you try to play your divx/xvid .avi file be sure to find out what codec the video is running so we can update this area for all our users.
If the codec is not supported you will receive the following message on your 360:
STATUS CODE: 80-C00DF242
Quote:
Can't play this content because it contains audio or video with an unsupported codec. For more info, go to www.xbox.com/support.

Hi Teammia,
Welcome to 360-HQ.
You could use a program like "VIRTUALDUB" (free) which you can convert to whatever codec you want including DIVX or XVID.
Its pretty easy to use but id say you will need to read up a little bit.
Really all you have to do is open any file you want to convert from old DIVX to new DIVX in virtua dub.
Then choose FULL PROCESSING mode from the Video menu and choose COMPRESSION.. Make sure you choose the codec you want.. eg XVID or DIVX 5.11 etc etc..
Check to make sure that AUDIO options are set to: DIRECT STREAM COPY.
Then choose save as and give your pc a few minutes to convert.
I have tryed a few files one the audio was a second out, then redid the file and this time folloed the on screen sugestion which was to do direct audio and this seems to be much better although now my file which was 300megs is not 800megs!!!!! not tried on the xbox yet and my Mrs gets home before me and uses it all eve...... Dame Tomb Raider lol

Ok cool.. thats easy fixed.. You just need to edit the BITRATE in the video compression options.. Turn it down and experiment to get the best filesizes.
