Something like that will definitely work as i already have it set up although not quite the same as you. I placed a window in the center of my HDD like your pic shows but used a detachable power cable from a PC case fan so i could detach the HDD anytime. I powered the led's from the actual PSU connectors (well i didn't, llamma did a while back for something else for me) and i had a 12v inverter connected to it and placed at the back of the dvd drive. I then have the cable running from the inverter up to the edge of the case where it's held in place by hot glue then the male part of the cable connects to the female part to continue the circuit. The male part if set in the HDD case similar to the female in the 360 case and held by hot glue. Then i have that inside the HDD powering 2 separate circuits of 3 led's each with a resistor for each one. To be honest though it's been so long since i did this mod that i can't remember the specs of the led's and resistors that i used but that's not important.
What is important is that is that YES it's possible to do this mod, VERY easily. just make the correct power calculations for the resistors and led's and your away to go.

BTW i never did actually post any pics of that mod when i did it but i'll post some maybe tomorrow if i get a chance.

Should write up a small tutorial pred. 360 comes apart really easy. Im going to be doing a gamers 360 elite. For all those that don't want to spend the extra loot on a black case, and a larger hdd.

So I'll show em how to paint case/hdd/controllers, and how to do the hdd mod so instead of getting shafted for the new 120 gig hdd, you can just buy a laptop 120 gig and use it instead. It should be fun and easy.

But people love tutorials, I'd like to see how you went about your mod, I had ideas on how I would rig it up, but never found the time to expand on it in this post.
