Just got an xbox 360 from ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=020&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=300075036975&rd=1&rd=1

And now im wondering what to buy next?/What to do next?

I have about £50 left to spend on xbox 360 stuff.

So can some guys explain to me what you think should be bought for the 360 so i can experience the full potential.

1. Im wanting to do this dvd drive thing so I can play my backed up games on the 360 is this a hard process?

2. Decent games?

3. anyway of softmodding? XBMC??

4. anything on ebay u think i should buy ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Cool

If You want your 360 to play Backup's there are a lot of experienced Modders here at 360-hq that can help point you in the right direction for the Updated Firmware and software tools you will need.

Is it Hard? Well It's like ridding a Bike, Once you Learn it's Very Easy!

One Method of Creating Backup's is posted in the 360-hq Tutorials Section
HERE:

This Method of creating backup's of your games does require purchase of two DVD Drives and a couple of software downloads.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Once you Have Properly Made Backup's of your Games"

You will STILL Need to "Modify" Flash your 360 DVD-Rom with Updated Firmware to allow your 360 DVD-Rom to read the Backup's.

Is your 360 a Hitachi or Sammy?

You will Need to know this along with the factory installed Firmware in order to Determine which Modified Firmware you will Need to allow your 360 to play the backup's!

The First thing you will Have to do is Open the Console to Find out what Firmware version your 360 DVD-Rom has preinstalled from the factory.

This Tutorial will guide you through the process.

You will be looking for a Sticker like THIS:

Once you Know your 360 DVD-Rom Model "Hitachi or Sammy" and the Factory Installed Firmware then we can guide you through the process on where to get updated firmware for your 360 DVD-Rom and how to install it!

Post Back if you have any more questions or if you don't totally understand something, We here at 360-hq want to help you have the Best 360 Experience Possible!!!!

Regards, JFHI

hs anyone broken their 360/dvd drive by doing this?

I have an external dvd copier if that will work ?

also bought the xbox360 (see link in first post) without realising that the core console doesnt actually come with a hardrive? (bloody microsoft) So does this mean I will need to buy a hard drive or is it only used for saves and songs?

lets say my 360 doesnt have the right dvd drive? does that mean my 360 cant be flashed? hence selling it and being lucky buying another?

YES!!! But Most Broken or "Bricked" Drives can be Recovered.

If it is a Dual Layer DVD Burner It is Possible that it might work for Backup's, But you would have to try it out and see.

Although If you do Have to Purchase One I would Recommend the, Pioneer DVR-111D Dual Layer DVD Burner

Correct, Without Homebrew for the 360 yet it is just for saves and songs and stuff. So you can play without the HDD, you might want to get Memory Card for saves though, unless you want to invest in a HDD which would make life much easier for your 360 Experience!

Currently ALL 360 Drives are Flashable! The Latest v78 Hitachi was the last Unflashable Drive Until Maximus Hooked us Up with His Firmware ToolBox v3.0 Software Program. Now the v78 Hitachi is one of the easiest flashes EVER!

Dude Get "Gears of War!" Friggin Awesome!!!!

Anyways looks like you got a GREAT DEAL!!!!

Goodluck

Nope.. You need a SAMSUNG SH-D162C PC drive if you dont want to hotswap.. Once you install the SH-D162C PC drive you can flash the drive with kreon firmware so it enables the drive to backup xbox 360 originals.

Xbox 360 Backup using Samsung SH-D162C Drive:
http://www.360-hq.com/xbox-tutorials-36.html

If you dont have a SH-D162C drive you will need to use the hotswap method.

that should get you going.

cheers,

hobbs
