Apologies if this is in the wrong forum.
My sons xbox360 drive broke, when i say broke the tray just ejected and stays out, you have to manually push it back to close but then it ejects straight away, the only way to play a game is to push it close and hold it there for a few seconds and force it not to open this was a workaround for a week or so but now it wont open with game inside.
So im presuming a new drive is needed, unless there is a quick fix remedy you know of?
Now its not modded in any way and i just want a working drive, and was wondering if its something i can do myself, and if so whats the best way and drive i would need?
Doesn't need modding/hacking just a new drive is fine.
Many thanks

There may be fix, but let me tell you first in order to change the drive you to first get the DVDKey of your console. _________________________________________________________

In order to actually replace the DVD drive you'd need to extract the firmwares key files or I think it's called .bin I don't believe you can just swap out the DVD drives without the drive being flashed first. It could just be a loose hinge or a easy pop back into place fix I don't have much experience there.
What type of Xbox is it?
If it's a slim model I suggest researching someone in your area that flashes Xbox DVD drives and make a $100 investment in something called xkeys, this will allow you to play Game ISOs off of an external Hard drive via usb, and not have to worry about DVD drive ware, from what I know DVD drive replacements can go up to $60 to replace so why not spend a little more and have the ability to play games externally?
There's more than likely a DVD flasher in your area paying anything over $20 to get it flashed is a rip off in my eyes.
Do you already have an external HDD drive?
Just thought I'd give you some friendly advice, the reason why I didn't say to get it done to the older white 'phat' models is because they're prone to overheating as all of us already know and you'd have to go through the same process of getting your DVD drive flashed again if any overheating occurs.

Sounds more complicated then i first thought.
Hmm just thought it would be as simple as buying a new drive and replacing but obviously not lol
Yes its a slim model xbox360.
I dont have any external hdds but i guess i could buy a cheap one then look into xkeys whatever that is, im presuming its hardware that plugs into the hdd?
But if i did just want a new hard drive id have to find out the firmware keys before replacing hard drive then add the keys back somehow, is that correct?
Oh im in the UK if this makes any difference lol

even with xkeys you need the drive key. open the console then tells which drive tou have.
what's the manufacturer date of the console? _________________________________________________________

Xkeys is a solderless chip that you drop into your Xbox behind the dvd drive theres tons of tutorials on youtube about it not sure which rev they're on right now or if it's just the same one.
I think there are tons of people in the UK that mod so you should still have no issues finding one you may have to drive a bit, but you can do it yourself I think X_Splinter has a tutorial where you can just pop the dvd drive into your sata pc ports on flash it?
If not you'd need a team xcuter usb flashing device again not sure what there latest devices are now days it's getting pretty easy to flash a drive.
But to install xkeys all you need is your firmware.bin and drag it over yo the micro sd card that comes with it.
1tb external drives can run you another $100 I suggest getting anything wd since they have 5 year warranty on drives, caviar blue or black hdds should be fine.
If it was just that simple then Microsoft wouldn't make any money on repairs .
