Hi all,
Look i know a firmware flash does the same thing but ive heard recently that over the next 12 months you will need to haveyour original firmware in place to play some of the newest games.
Now this is only rumour, but i have had many peeps talk with me about this..
I myself want to flash mine too but then after seeing how simple the modchip install was (for the same effect) it was much much easier for me to go with the mod..
I have 2 360mods by aladdin2 sitting here and im thinking about whether to firmware or just install..
Either way i should be able to play backups of my originals without a drama i think.
I don't believe I have the right PC hardware to flash my samsung 360 drive... (no nforce4) so I am stuck with the hardware mod. I purchased the Xecuter Conectivity Kit, does the ODD bypass the need for a special SATA controller?
The NME looks like the easier of them, but I am not sure if it loose's much for functionality. I would love to hear some feedback from people who have used any of them. _________________________________________________________ XBox v1.1 w/XBIT

Have you checked out the cheap mod called 360mod by aladdin 2??
Its from divineo.cn..
I have two of them here which i intend on writing up a tutorial to soldier them up.. I doubt it will be too hard.. I think 1 chip is 4 wires and the other is 11.. It depends on what drive you have.
Also, then you can reflash the chip without the worry of bricking your original XBOX 360 DVDROM drive..
anyway, just my 2 cents..
let us know how you go.. I will ofcourse reply with my findings when i install the 360mod by aladdin2 onto my SAMSUNG 360 DVDROM Drive..
I recently installed the Mod360 chip for my Hitachi drive and cannot get it to work. Will play DVD movies but not any games (backup or original). can someone help.

I installed the mod360 for my samsung drive.
No problems here at all..
I can still boot my original XBOX 360 Games and my Movies just fine.
I havent been able to get time to make/burn a backup to test the mod but its seems to be working just fine for me.
If you have a hitachi why wouldnt you flash it.. It seems to be the choice for all hitachi users..
The main reason i installed the mod360 chip in my samsung was because of the lack of tutorials at the time.. Since then i have written my own firmwar flashing tutorials for samsung..
