Okay here is the deal...I am wanting to mod a 360 to play backup copies of games I own and wish to retain unscratched. I am not worried about getting banned because it will be a offline only 360. Now I know that we have only the best and brightest minds here that can make this possible. What I need is no gobblygook tech speak and something I can understand and approach without requirring a degree in anything. I'm modding a USA 360. I will keep you updated on my progress throughout this process. Any and all help you can give a guy with no technical skills whatsoever will be greatly appreciated. Thank you! _________________________________________________________

Hi rebel and merry xmas mate,
Im not sure if you have heard of the xk3y, its a modchip for your xbox 360 that lets you play your backup .iso games from any USB device/hdd. I rate them, it saves you needing to burn your backups to dvd dual layers and saves alot of cash.. You can still backup your own games using a 0800 drive, or whatever which is cool! With the xk3y, you don't ever flash your dvdrom drive, it stays stock, the modchip holds the hacked firmware.
Apart from that you will be wanting to look into DVD Firmware flashing, its great, but you will need to reflash your drive when new waves come out. _________________________________________________________ HQ Network:

Okay so I buy this and then what do I need to do? _________________________________________________________

No matter what you do, you will need to find out what DVDROM drive you have installed on your Xbox 360. Once you know that you will need to backup the original firmware so that you can get the unique key.
So you need:
1. JungleFlasher
2. Compatible SATA chipset or VIA6421A Internal SATA Card
3. Something to power the drive. A connectivity kit of somekind.
Basically jungleflasher will backup your firmware, the additional stuff is hardware needed to get the backup. hope that helps get you started ! _________________________________________________________ HQ Network:

x3key is definitely the way to. Not much chance of bricking your DVD drive and you can do away with disks.
I had a liteon drive, and it was cheaper/easier for me to pay someone else to get the key, and that was paying postage for it also. If you have an older drive, a VIA6421 PCI card is cheap enough.
If you haven't got a connectivity kit to power the DVD drive when you connect it to your PC, you can leave it plugged into the xbox and power the PC and the xbox on at the same time, but you have to attach a wire from the xbox chassis to the PC case to provide a proper ground. Some people say that m$ can detect if you do that and ban you from live, but people think m$ ban you if you fart in the same room as your xbox.
Hope that causes more questions than answers _________________________________________________________ Opinions are like arse holes, everybody has one and your's stinks.

Xkeys is a good option and easy install however if its going to be a offline console only you should go ahead and look into getting a demon chip or a jtag done.

First, which console do you have? Slim or Phat?
I recommend Xk3y for both, the difference is if you have a phat and wanna save $$$ you can stick with firmware flashing _________________________________________________________
xk3y looks like the way to go, almost like a softmod mixed with swapmagic on a spoofed cdrom. thats what i gather anyway.
i think when the cost comes down it will be huge especially if it cant be detected by the xbox/m$. also can you install any hard drive of any size internally if you run xk3y? or is it just easier to run an external drive via usb?

The xkey simply emulates the DVD drive, so it has nothing to do with the internal hdd. _________________________________________________________

yeah just went on a google fest and now i get it, going to get one soon for the fat and then wait a year for warranty to run out on the slim and probably use the same one for that as it would probably be dead by then, and if not then ill get another one, by then there will be 10 alternative knock offs though.
although now im off on a wasabi 360 ultra search fest, so whats the difference? wasabi claims auto key extraction and onscreen loading without extra lcd screen,
