Well, "my" Xbox 360 arrived on Thursday, July 27... Microsoft received it on July 21st, so just under one week...
I couldn't find my original serial number, but I know this is not my original because I purchased it in November 2005 and this one was manufactured in March 2006... but I don't care... it was kinda neat to have one of the first Xboxs, but it's much neater to have a functional one!
I bought a Nyko Intercooler to try to prevent any further "mishaps"... it's kinda loud, but I believe it will keep the 360 considerably cooler! _________________________________________________________ The World's Most Awesome Xbox 360 Room

Cool, did you get a new 360 or is it a refurb?? It really doesn't matter as long as it works, but it would be nice if you got a new one.. _________________________________________________________ Xbox V1.3

My power supply for my dads 360 went out this weekend, went to the Corona California Costco, bought a new premium, swapped em, took the broken one back...NEW 360!!!
If I would have gone through microsnatch I would be waiting till Christmas to get back into Oblivion.

Any easy way to tell??? Looks as good as new, but I suspect it's a refurb _________________________________________________________ The World's Most Awesome Xbox 360 Room

Hey, been looking round the site for a while but thought i would finally post. I'm from the uk and I had a few problems, freezing up and a disturbingly grinding dvd drive. I contacted microsoft and they sent me a UPS label, so I box my box up (hehe) I call UPS and a guy turns up 10 minutes later, which freaks me out.
Besides this I get my box back 3 days later, except it appears to be a different one and the manufacture date on it is the month after mine (which is back in november). So I call em up and ask about this prepared to shout "you fix my box or gimme a damn new one"
Apparently they only send out refurbs and this is how they do it:
They get ur box in, put it on a conveyor, it goes into a machine which rips the entire guts out and then it goes round the room to another machine which puts an entirely new setup straight in the box. (They guy said if theres any rubber marks on the box that this is where the machine grips it and would wipe off.)
Basically they cant be assed diagnosing every machine that comes in so they shred the insides and put new ones in every box. Then they send you one of those boxes. Apparently thats how they keep their turn-around times down.
So basically you always get a refurb, but the console internals are all brand new the chassis of the box is the only "re" bit in the furb.
If you ring up and go nuts they probably sort you out a new one but i was happy enough after he explained.
And that children is the end of my story, which was far too long...
Thanks for the interesting story... that doesn't surprise me.... I had FedEx show a few hours after calling Sony abou a crapped out Vaio... and I live out in the middle of nowhere!
Oh, and congratulations on for first post.... and welcome! _________________________________________________________ The World's Most Awesome Xbox 360 Room

I've done the "Swap out" trick with many things at my local wal mart. Oh, my guest air matress has a hole in it? Chit, let's go get a new one and swap it out. Unfortunately, (or is that thankfully) I haven't had to do it yet with my 360, thank god. The largest Item I swapped at Walmart was a 250 dollar RCA stereo. Kept the speakers in the box and just swapped out the main unit. You'd be surprised how many people ARE doing this with everything in their house. It's a lifetime (or product lifetime) garauntee.
Forget overpaying for the M$ warranty, wal-mart employees don't really check, or scan the ol' barcode (unless it is printed... so I don't know about the 360 swap). But if I did get caught in the act, I'd tell them it was my second 360 (basically you own two) and I must have grabbed the wrong one when I walked out. Simple. _________________________________________________________ "That which does not kill you, only makes you stronger."
My 360 in now out of warranty by about 2 months and I dont have original box, would that bother m/soft if I return it? I bought system (not core as it had hdd, wireless controler etc) via ebay and dont have a shop receipt only an ebay printed receipt. The buyer sold it as new and the box wasnt opened (or didnt seem to be opened), am i still ok to return to ms and ask for a swap or should I try to get a repair myself?
Thanks for any help offered _________________________________________________________ never trust a scarecrow wearin shades after dark, be careful of that old bow tie he wears it takes a sweet little bullet for a pretty blu gun

Just contact M$ support and find out.. Either way they can fix it for you.. It just may cost you money..
Other then that you could contact the cool guys over at llama.com and see if they can help you repair it.
