It's been a long time since I have moded anything. So I've been reading up and have some questions.
Flashing a DVD Drive: Is this better then getting a chip or is it about the same? My concern is Live. I want to continue playing on live with my originals, but can this currently be detected and lead to a ban?
Cheapmod: Cannot seem to find much info on these. Any links to where I can get some detailed info would be great - stealth, installing, switches etc.
Any other suggestions for chips? What is currently the safest MOD chip around, if the cheapmod is not reliable?
well, the cheapmod is still around, but it's a frackin hassle to do as they epoxy all the leads around the IC. Also, I'm not sure how compatible it is with jungleflasher and ix1.9 firmware as jungle now detects all IC automatically so It now knows where to flash properly. I think the cheapmod is limited to hitachi drives so if you swap out and clone your Benq to Hitachi this might flag you now with new checks involved. Ah, it's exausting to search this all out now as it's kinda went to the wayside and we took our chances with c4eva's firmware releases. If you stay on top of firmwares it's less likely to be dinged. One last option is there is a mod to run two dvd drives on one console. But, in the end, if your playing backups online, you take the chance no matter what as not many gamy games are fun single player

You need to flash your drive, you do not need a chip to play backup games.
Thing is, there is a new disk format out at the moment that no custom firmware can play.
As for live safe, it relys on more than the firmware, it's to do with the quality of the rip and security sectors and stuff i don't know anything about.
A hack has been released that will allow all xbox's (except Xenon) to boot into hyper-visor mode. There are some chips just come out on the market: Matrix Glitcher 360, SQUIRT360, EDGE 360, x360 Glitchip/SF and 360-CLIP.
These are definitely not live safe but will allow you to play homebrew, well soon it will when some is released. _________________________________________________________ Opinions are like arse holes, everybody has one and your's stinks.

Thank you both for the information. I guess I have allot research to do before I do anything. I remember the days when modding used to be so much easier, and allot less complicated.
No problem. If you have any more questions just start a new topic so everyone knows where to follow up on. Seems like c4eva is waiting for the dash update to come into full effect for testing, then IX 2.0 with the 0800 firmware is coming out.
His words, all in good time

You do anything to adjust the firmware or run home-brew you risk the chance of getting banned no matter what but if your smart like some people you can make it were it is less risky or buy 2 consoles one for online play that plays only originals and another that plays backups.
Steps easy and cheapest would be a DVD Flash Mod
Flash the drive with the latest firmware which is 1.91 for most drives 1.92 for slims i think. These will allow to play all games except for the newer ones with XGD3 security games like gears of war 3 and other such big releases.. Make sure games are ran correctly through abgx and patched this is a must now a days no matter what.. Dont play games before release dates wont matter if you dont play that console online ha.. Also make sure your playing with the original drive or a drive of the same type. Aka so if you have a benq drive in there and it broke and you decided to spoof a lite-on in there you will be banned and now games wont work either as the new ap checks if the drive is the same as it is suppose to be.
Other cool stuff out there now would be like the xkey you still need to pull the firmware off your drive but thats it and put it on the xkey and then you can put all your games on to a external drive and play it off that which is pretty sick but comes with a price tag of around $100
The new Reset Glitch Hack which just got found out a little while ago by some very very smart mofos ha is a great break for the homebrew scene as this will allow us to run unsigned code aka homebrew on the console which is in the beginning steps and people are hitting it hard to get things going on it which you see chips and everything getting ready to be released for it. Can not wait for this to be more evolved. Wont probably be xbox live safe but thats fine by me.
I have had only 1 console banned in my time on xbox live from the firmware mod and that was my fault for playing a game that did not come out for 3 months lmao so if you do everything right and keep up to date on new dashes and flashing your console back to stock and that before updates and then reflashing back and making sure games are properly patched and not playing before release date i usually would wait 2-3 days after or when game was verified... After all this you have a good chance to keep under the radar
