i just bought an xbox 360 but it turns out it was soft modded so i am afraid to go into live to play. i bought it to play black ops and mw 2 online. i dont really care about playing burned games. so i was wondering... is it a way to unmod it? so i can go on xbox live with no worries? please guys id appreciate any help you can give me.
the only thing i know about this console is that whoever flashed it didnt keep the original codes that the original firmware has. and at this point i dont know if there is a backup in the HD.
so if any one knows where to go from here im all ears. thanks guys.

the only way to unmod it is if you have a copy of the original firmware then you reflash that to the dvd drive so its stock. Contact the original owner see if they have a back up or at least if they've already had it on line as if it is already flagged then it will get banned any way at some point so it wont make much difference.

As bomernee says, you fcuked! If it's flagged you screwed. Get a refund.
There is a way to check if it has been flagged, someone here will know how to check.

You can revert your xbox 360 back to unmodded but it will make no difference if the console has already been flagged by XBOX LIVE!
You could find out what model dvd-rom you have and get an original firmware and flash it but i doubt it will matter unless the xbox you have has never been online.
it hasnt been played online. thats the only reason i wanna give it a try. its not banned. but where could i get the original firmware? i know that my drive is a BenQ. but i have no idea where to go from there. or where to get the firmware. and how to go flashing it? i found in a different forum that theres a software called Soft Installer deluxe 4.53 but i dont know if thats what i need. and if i have to connect the xbox hard drive via usb to my computer and do it from there or if it can be done from the xbox itself. see ive always had ps3 but with that whole psn crash thing i havent been playing online and that was the whole reason why i got the 360.

SID is for original XBOX, not the 360. I would say the easiest way would be to use JungleFlasher. Check the tutorial section on this site, should have everything you need to know. _________________________________________________________

ok so i got the software JF v1.82 and the tutorial for such. i was reading that MTKFlash32 is the one that applies for BenQ which is the one that i got.
now i quote "MTKFlash32 is also where you are able to send the Intro of Death (a.k.a LiteOn Erase) to the LiteOn PLDS DG16-D2S after obtaining DVDKey"
my question related to this is. when the xbox was first flashed to read burned games. for what i understand a key was extracted or overwritten but it is not the same one that was before flashing. how do i go by retrieving that key to reflash to vendor mode? this is where im stuck... what do i need to do here? and does JF help me getting that key. i obviously dont have it and have no idea how to get it. so i need help here. if someone can please guide me on how to do this. i understand the tutorial but i think the tutorial is made assuming we have that key.

I don't think you need the key off the drive. The MTKFlash 32 tab is used this unlock Benq and Samsung drives and then dump the current flash for use in the source sub‐tab in Firmware Tool 32 tab. (According to http://www.jungleflasher.net/) The BenQ drive just has to be in "vendor mode" in order to flash any firmware to it. I haven't used JungleFlasher in a while but it used to have a "Flash original firmware" option and as long as you had original firmware in the firmware folder, you could use that option. If you're just sending your box back to MS then I wouldn't worry about your firmware. Have you actually tried a backup to see if it will play? It may not even be modded to begin with, unless you're 100 percent sure that it is. I've been off the scene for a while so I'm kind of rusty but trying to help in any way possible. _________________________________________________________

Hey mate, welcome to HQ.
The drive key is no big deal. It is inside the firmware, as long backup that firmware you will be fine.
The jungleflasher guide tell you everything.
I think there is stock firmwares for download, what you need is to insert that key on it but jungleflasher do that automatically.
Also consider checking our tutorial section and VIP section.
You can follow the flashing tutorials of LT the only thing you will do different is instead of reading the stock fw and flashing with modify one, you do the opposite _________________________________________________________

but i still have some doubts maybe you can help me with these other questions based on your suggestions.
1. must the modified firmware currently on my xbox have the original key?
if it does then in theory what you are suggesting makes a lot of sense and could potentially work.
2. where could i get a stock firmware for my benq drive?
SiK_WiD_iT thanks for your feedback too. it is modified because i have tried burned games in it and it plays them. and i have read that the key has to match the key in the mother board but there is no known way to hack the MB to get the key from it. so my only chance is like x_splinter says, if the modified firmware currently on my benq has the key as well and i can extract it from there.
