Wait so do you have 2 red lights or 4 red lights? They mean different things and you said both in your post.

That means your xbox is overheating. Where is your xbox located at? Inside of an entertainment center or something?

What I would first try doing is getting it out away from everything (say in the middle of the room if possible) and see if it still does it. If it is still overheating, you may have to open it up and blow all the dust out of it (my friends xbox was so full of dust the airflow was almost 0).

If that still does not fix it, then your gonna have to pull the heatsinks off and put on some new thermal paste. This is all just future stuff though and I'm sure the first thing I suggested will fix it.

I'm going to get stuck down on this one quick, I know. But everyone has to trust me on this one.
Lay your damn 360 flat!!! Look at the design of it everyone. Tell me where the hot air goes? Has anyone ever seen steam go sideways before? No, it goes up. You have a hard drive on it as well, do you see vents on the drive, no. Three major problems with it standing up. One, not enough airflow comes from the bottom. Two, hot air rises and no where to go. Three, none of the dvd drives actually like to be on their sides, even though engineers still believe it's ok, the disk has more potential to spin out of balance and do more harm to the motor and laser when it hits it than laying down. It's the motor spindle supporting the disk and spinning it than letting gravity do it's job.
Whew, now that's off my mind. The fins are so tight together and sharp that it starts to collect on the edges and continues to build up until no air passes through. I suggest you so it soon before you get the 3 rings, which will happen if you do not get it running cool again. Like Darth said as well, make sure it has a lot of air flow around the system. It's like a micro furnace after a few hours of play.
Let us know how things go Smile
Delta

I agree with delta, I've always kept mine on it's side and it's been much cooler than my friends that he puts sitting up. I got an old lego box I had laying around and made little 1 x 1 x 2 inch cardboard squares that I could put on each corner of the xbox. It holds it above the ground so the underside gets airflow to it as well.

It does not hurt to open up the 360 every once in a while just to clean the dirt and dust bunnies out of the heat sink, the first time I did mine, it was totally clogged, I do not know how it did not burn out.

Here is an old pic
