Hello everyone, I am not new but I could not remember what my old user name was so I had to create a new one. It has been some years since I have been on here do to family, work, college and what not.
I want to upgrade my HD from a 20gig to a 120 or 200gig HD but before I spend any money I just want to make sure I will not get banned from Live. I know it can be done with everything I have been reading but no one is saying anything about being banned.
you should be fine as long as it is a xbox hard drive _________________________________________________________

If its a Microsoft product then yes I would be fine, I am speaking about replacing the the 20gig HD with another WD HD. Meaning taking out the 20gig from the HD case and reformat the new HD to XBOX 360 standard. Sorry if I did not as my question clearly.
Any reason why you want to do it? Is the drive failing? _________________________________________________________

More storage come on guys why would you think he would want to upgrade to a larger harddrive he talking the hd hack
Ok your best bet is trying to find used xbox 360 120gb and 250gb drives as they are cheaper then buying the one drive you particularly need it is only a certain one i heard that you need to do it yourself with.
Like around my area on craigslist 120gb hard drive $40-60 250gb around 60-80 if you lucky but you could always try ebay over seas to my buddy just picked up a 250gb hard drive for his slim for only $55
Cheaper then going through all the hassle you need to do to buying the certain drive its not just wd its also a certain model too i guess. but also having to do more then just format and that i did not read up much on it seemed to much for me i found it cheaper to buy used or from overseas as i am patient for the deal. _________________________________________________________ The one the only Scarface!!

have to agree with scarface on this one.. I would go legit, its not worth all the mucking around and the chance of being banned.. They did start banning all NON Microsoft approved accessories i know that.. Several companies weren't happy about that.. hahah
Just grab a 2nd hand or brand new one of ebay / craigslist.
oh, and about that tutorial:
I suspect it is quite old and more for homebrew (JTAG) users, not XBox LIVE users. You can upgrade your hdd using that method no problem but since it is old we have no way of knowing if you get banned etc..
Thanks ForaHobby I think I am going to just do that and buy one.

Do you want me to search your old account? that way all your older posts will show and be much easier to find in your profiles!.. All i need is an email account and some guesses at your username.. anyway, up to you.
I believe all those cheap hdds on ebay are hacked wd drives, its why they are so cheap. I havent heard of any one being banned for using a hacked hdd, but then again I dont keep up on all the banning stuff. good luck!

The ban hammer has always swayed me away from a hdd upgrade the reason for me was that you need some info from a 120gb or 250gb or whatever your upgrading too and I always suspected it would be easy to flag the same hdd if they were modded. But its down to personal choice really and whether you mind the fact you *might* have to get a new box if you get banned. Personally I picked up a 60gb from a local store cheeeeaaap so that's enough to keep me going.
