I bought the console from a local kid for $20 but it was just the console. The unit has never been opened, seals were intact. He said it got 1 Red Ring so he went and bought a PS3.
For fixing it I was planning on using:
It comes with the UniClamp to replace the X-Clamps and also has a Southbridge clamp. I have some AS5 for the chips.
For Cooling since it has the older CPU heatsink with the copper pipe should I upgrade it to the newer version? Does it make that much of a difference? I was also planning on going with the XCM Extreme Air Cooler with LCD Temp Display and XCM Core Cooler V2. They draw power from the DVD drive and I've heard that could cause probs with the DVD drive should I get the 12v from a different source? I'm also going to probably get a XCM Crystal Clear Case, Clear HDD Case and BenQ Drive Window. I want the Clear Wind Tunnel as well. Plan on closing the gaps from the tunnel to the heatsinks to get better flow.
The front fan on the Core Cooler V2 I was planning on cutting out the case where the fan is and adding a fan protector.
How does all this sound? Anything you would do different? I also read where they ground down two of the mounting points because they are raise to high and don't let the board sit level. I've already ground those down so the board is sitting nice and level now.
Also if anyone has a falcon power supply and HDTV A/V cables they could let go of I'm in need of them. I have two stock fans I could offer for trade and cash for those who like to just mod the stock fans to 12v.
hi there the upgraded heatsinks will help greatly, and powering the fans i dont see why you couldn't just power them from the fans orginal power source or the pins from where the power suppley connects to the mother board http://www.360-hq.com/xbox-tutorials-50.html . and as far as the motherboard not sitting level i believe the washers from your rrod kits should solve that problem, and a tip if you have the patience you can mod your own case anyway you like and save your self a ton of money like me check out the link bro best of luck to you. http://www.360-hq.com/postt5894.html _________________________________________________________

just woke up http://www.360-hq.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=47009#47009 here is a link to everything i have. also i would wait on the xcm core 2 as team xecuter is coming out with a pretty cool kit which has fans siting on the cpu and also the add on heatsink 2nd generation and the temp difference is amazing and it takes the dvd drive out and puts it in a case that comes with the kit but who knows how long it be for them to release that. _________________________________________________________ The one the only Scarface!!

My brother has my first gen 360 console that was bought the day they came out and it still works great. I have removed the x-clamps and installed a whisper max fan and that's it. I also made sure that all the mounting spots for the board were even with each other.
It's gotten the RROD 2 times since the repair and all I had to do was loosen the screws and leave the system on to heat up and tighten back down and it's as good a new again. _________________________________________________________ Just picked up a Falcon HDMI console to fix and mod...
My old console forces me to re-bake the chip every week or two. It really becomes a pain really quickly. _________________________________________________________

consoles like that i would take the dvd drive out to use for backup and then make some killer youtube video of destroying the xbox like driving a truck off a jump and smashing down on the xbox or something ha. _________________________________________________________ The one the only Scarface!!
