What is with our government trying to rule everything?? Now they want to censor the internet in the USA, and by that they mean take down the site completely!?!?!?? Can they not see that no matter what they do something new will come about, just like torrent sites and along with the shutdown of limewire, they may succeed in taking one site down but then the next day there's 30 new ones up. Come on now lol.. I signed on the petition to stop this BS. They really need to stop abusing their power and stop trying to run the world. I'm not promoting piracy as the owners of software, music, movies, ect. have every right to get paid for the use of their creation and deserve to be by public or commercial use. But not all filesharing, trackers, P2P networks, ect. are used for illegal activities. Hell some have both illegal AND legit uses. I'm not sure if this was said before or not, i just now discovered this and hope to help spread it and have more and more people sign the petition as I did.
"In the United States, a new law proposal called The Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act (COICA) was introduced last week, and there will be a hearing in front of the Judiciary Committee this Thursday.
If passed, this law will allow the government, under the command of the media companies, to censor the internet as they see fit, like China and Iran do, with the difference that the sites they decide to censor will be completely removed from the internet and not just in the US."

They will just push the sites to be operated from countries where they can get away with it for a little longer. _________________________________________________________ Opinions are like arse holes, everybody has one and your's stinks.
I signed the petition for against this about a month ago when they had it on demonoid. I can't believe they can put down China for doing it, and then turn around and try to censor it ourselves. _________________________________________________________

Dont worry about it man, There are people that want to make that happen for different reasons, some to put a stop to negative info on them selves such as the left would love to be able to shut down any conservative blog's that they do not like such as breitbart for one and claim something like hate speech to shut it up, um I mean protect the citizens from racist hateful speech.
Then you have representatives of certain companies that would love to have the gov shut down competitors sites or restrict negative info on their company, Heck these guys do not donate to political people and parties out of the goodness of their hearts, its for favors in the future.
The Left has already given Obama the Key to shut the net down in the USA at any time of his choosing. But with the recent elections changing power in the house and the fact that the American Population on both sides are pro internet freedom and not afraid to come down hard on those in power that screw with it, it would be hard for any elected official to expect to be on board with any serious net censorship and expect to get re-elected. The only people that benifit from net censorship are Politicians, Corporations and probably some select political organizations.
Im not just picking on the left, the Patriot act given to us by the Bush admin. has given the Gov wide reaching powers to interfere or bypass altogether civil rights and Privacy as long as any restriction enacted is said to be done for anti-terror reasons. Heck 90%+ of homeland security is focused on investigations of the American Citizen not those out to harm the Citizen.
They have pulled some crap already recently but things are a changing.
I would keep an eye on it but not get too alarmed just yet.
I have no problem with limited internet regulation but only if it is done by the internet community itself, not by government, once gov. starts fiddeling with something they do not know when to stop.
This is why Gun Safety is regulated by the Gun owners Community and the manufacturers. The Federal Government is restricted from involvement in Gun Safety due to the second amendment. There was a special on television recently about the Problems with the Remington 700 and its faulty Safety. There are gun owner Organizations that are taking Remington to task to fix the problem, as one of the people suing Remington said "The industry has to see to it this problem is fixed, it sounds like a good Idea to have the Federal Government Require Remington to have a mandatory recall on the 700 as it does on malfunctions in cars for automobile companies, but the problem is.. If the federal Gov got involved in gun safety, the guns would be So Safe, They would not work."
I think the same is true of the Internet, Once government dictates what belongs on the net and what does not, pretty soon it too will be so safe it wont work.
I got my name on the list a few days back and forgot to post so i am doing that now, thanks for the link Darth.

Its getting very sad to see shit like this they are trying to do everything now. Everyone should have insurance by such and such date or be fined up to $1,000 Fuck you make it affordable and i will have it and you not getting a fucking dime from me for it .
They want to put a tax on Life insurances soon too which is complete bullshit when they already have taxed the money in the first place when the insurance companies get it and also when we paid for it that money that we already payed on it gets taxed either from your work check or how ever you get your income so we are getting double tax if not triple tax if you put yourself and the insurance company and then the policy once the person dies that equals 3 times it has been taxed if this pass's.
Also they talking about making the retirement age to 69:: fuck if i dont hit the lottery i am screwed lmao why the fuck would i want to work that long to only have a few years left to do jack shit because ill probably be on meds and getting fed through a tube and pissing through a tube thank you government for giving me the chance to live the american dream sometimes you feel like a robot that does nothing but work work work work. Just got an email that is great news! For once Oregon does something that no one else would:
Quote:
Sean -- big news! Yesterday the Senate Judiciary Committee voted unanimously to send the Internet blacklist bill to the full Senate, but it was quickly stopped by Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) who denounced it as "a bunker-buster cluster bomb" aimed at the Internet and pledged to "do everything I can to take the necessary steps to stop it from passing the U.S. Senate."
Wyden's opposition practically guarantees the bill is dead this year -- and next year the new Congress will have to reintroduce the bill and start all over again. But even that might not happen: Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Hollywood's own senator, told the committee that even she was uncomfortable with the Internet censorship portion of the bill and hoped it could be removed when they took it up again next year!
This is incredible -- and all thanks to you. Just a month ago, the Senate was planning to pass this bill unanimously; now even the senator from Hollywood is backing away from it. But this fight is far from over -- next year, there's going to be hearings, negotiations, and even more crucial votes. We need to be there, continuing to fight.
