Hello Fellow Xboxers,

So I am from the Xbox1 forums and have the original Xbox that has been modded. I am finally catching up with the times and now ready to get a Xbox360.

I am looking for help and recommendations from everyone, specifically from the mod arena, as to which one is the best model. I am not sure if I would chance modding it, because I would use the Live service for the first time ever, but I probably ultimately would mod it.

So which Xbox model is the best suited? I am in the dark with the Xbox360 in that I am not sure if one Xbox360 is more difficult to mod than another. i.e. the Falcon motherboard vs the Jasper motherboard. I think that last time I looked into it, was that the Jasper motherboard is the preferred one.

So I'd like to get everyone's opinion. Thank you for you advise guys.

I can't say much about modding except that you should look into JTAG

In some of the forum posts about JTAG, HQ members talk about the best version of 360 to use.

If you want the best xbox 360 money can buy, get the new slim 360 that just came out yesterday for $299. Built-in WIFI N, 250 GB drive, plus quiet and cool running to name some notable new features.

Now modding the xbox slim? unlikely to be preferred

Hey, I am running a JTAG. Personally, I love the Xenon motherboards. I personally think they make modding more easy. I personally found the Xenon motherboards very easy to JTAG comparing to the other motherboards.

Okay so I read up on JTAG - Joint Test Action Group (http://www.360-hq.com/postt5526.html). To JTAG, the Xbox dashboard has to be a number lower than 8xxx and maybe if the dashboard is 2.0.8498. The JTAG hack has been verified to work until the 849x-update (summer 09).

I heard chips are more stable and versatile. May I ask why didn't you didn't use a chip?

Has anyone installed a chip? If so, what chip you select and why?

The Xenon motherboards are the 1st generation, which I could understand as being easier. The Jasper is a 3rd generation motherboard (ref http://www.tiaowiki.com/w/Image:360jtag-power.jpg). Can that also be JTAG'd/chipped?

I didn't go a chip simply because I didn't want to buy one. hehe. They both serve the same purpose. Just that with a chip you get to switch inbetween NAND's. Chips are more stable and reccomended as if something goes wrong you switch over your nand. And all motherboards are JTAGable except the upcoming 'Valhalla' (aka the Xbox 360 Slim), but if you can find a Xbox 360 with the lower dashboard version, you can JTAG it.

Is the NAND for the Xbox360, equivalent to the purpose of the the Xbox1's flash banks?

Also with a chip, should I have any concerns when I use Xbox Live? I know a while back M$ banned Xboxes that were modded. Were these the JTAG'd ones?

What I would like is to have the emulators and other unsigned code, but at the same time I wish to be able to go onto the Live services for the social aspect. I never used the Live service on the Xbox1 version, so I didn't have any concerns when I chipped it.

Also what chip manufacturer did you use and why?

Thanks for your comments.

I'll be honest, I really do like the idea of getting the newest Xbox version. Slimmer, built-in wifi, cooler and quieter, but I am interested in the trade offs of this system versus the previous system. Yes, I am imagine modded would be more difficult. I would like to know if it will be possible given time to reverse engineer it.

The Slim model might be too new for people to answer this, but can anyone provide any trade offs?

i.e. Can't play previous Xbox1 games, etc etc

You can't go on Xbox Live with any mod, that includes firmware modding. And the slim will not be able to be JTAG'ed but can be firmware modified to play games on a burnt disc. But you cannot JTAG them, meaning no unsigned code on the slim. The reason is simply because the Xbox 360 Slim's are going to be shipped with the new update.

Is it possible to have a chipped xbox360 and be able to enable/disable switch in order to play Live?

Ya they have those where you can switch between the onboard NAND for live and the custom NAND on the chip. Except to go on live you would need to update your dash, so maybe that would affect it? I'm thinking its like the old xbox where it would just load the other NAND and it wouldn't need the old dash to flash the NAND. The chips cost about $50 though.
