In case I missed it, is your 360 banned? Because if it isn't and you go and start modifiying the 250gig hd with public keys, you will be banned from live. Thats why the 360 doesn't recognize it as a console hd, but as an external drive. If the transfer went properly, it moves your keys to the new drive and all is good.
What is the chepo unit you used, I'll try to look up info on it for you.
