While repairing the RROD on this console, it occured to me that the X-brace and 8 black screw area on the bottom of the chassis was no longer useful for anything. I cut it out with a dremel! This should allow more cooling as in the penny trick etc. Has anyone else ever seen this? It's working well so far but I have been unable to find anything on the web about anyone else doing this.

well... thats something different... never seen it done b4 and i done see a problem in doing it...
the only thing I can think may create a problem is that the chassis is used to support the motherboard from twisting when heated. Now the board will stay good in the area of the clamps, but now with no support in the center it may bow up or down after a few heating cooling cycles. Then again, it may be the simple things that make it live longer. Also the chassis is one big heatsink as well, and the heat would transfer down the bolts and transfer out to the HS, but the extra cooling is good as well. Maybe a catch 22 ???
