Hi bigdawgman,
If you want to replace your existing hiatchi drive with another brand, say samsung or benq, then you will need to spoof the new drive so your xbox 360 thinks it is a hitachi.
I have already written a tutorial to guide you through spoofing.

Hopefully my tutorial will get you out of trouble.. Let us know how you go!
Yes, or you can spoof it with another Hitachi drive using Firmware ToolBox. I spoofed a Hitachi 78 as a Samsung MS28 using Firmware ToolBox and its working great! Even if you can find another one of the same drive's and flash it's keys. You can do this in Firmware ToolBox by going Tools, Direct Drive Dump (GDR Only) and dumping the firmware, once it has dumped, make a copy of it. Now open the original copy of it and switch the keys and select Save Key. Now select Tools, Direct Drive Flash and Differential Flash (PATCH) and flash the copy of the firmware with the correct drive key in it. After it has been patched with the new firmware, you should be done and it should be ready to be put back in the Xbox 360. _________________________________________________________
