Hi guys. As most of us here in 360-hq.com i ahve an xbox AND an xbox 360. Ans also like most of us my xbox is modded with a modchip. Now the problem i have is i can connect either of my consoles to my Linksys Gaming adapter to connect wirelessly to my Dlink DI-624 and they connect perfectly with one little problem.. Even if i set up both consoles with EXACTLY the same settings, as in the same IP address, DNS, and so on, the problem is i have to re-enter the WEP passkey into the dashboard everytime i switch to either console for it to work on the network. I can't understand why this happens if i have both consoles set up with the exact same settings????
Can anyone help me figure out exactly what is going on so i don't have to keep re-entering the passkey into the dash everytime i switch WITHOUT turning off WEP on the router??
Thanks

Don't you add a wireless device on the router to allow them to connect. What I (dad) always does is disable the wep key until we have connected the new device and then pick up the MAC address and add it to the allowed list. We got a netgear.

No i don't have to add any wireless devices at all on my router. I just have to make sure that they have the same key. I'm thinking that it might be the wireless adapter that is giving the problem because the router never gives me a problem, but i have to re-enter the passkey on the dashboard, but the dash is controlling the adapter so that might be where the problem lies.

If I'm reading the post right you can't have two IP s exactly the same on the same network. try moving the last number up or down one count on either the 360 or the xbox. The range should be in the router setting somewhere. I've never used wireless networks but it sound like you are haveing to set static IPs.
Forgive me if you know this stuff. I'm not that great with it myself so this maybe why I am reading your question wrong. _________________________________________________________

no that's kool, you are on the right track but for one little thing. I'm not using both of the consoles at the same time. I am only using one at a time, therefore giving them the same settings should not affect anything, theoretically.

Could the different MAC addresses be forcing it to reset?
just another thought. _________________________________________________________

Well that's what i thought it might be. Do you know if you can manually set the mac address on the xbox and xbox 360?? If so then i'll copy the mac address from the xbox onto the xbox 360 and hopefully it'll work. _________________________________________________________ Predtech

Dude, you were spot on with the MAC address'. when i set up the xbox 360 with the same manual settings as the xbox and manually gave it the same MAC address it connected to XBL perfectly and then when i changed it over to the xbox without turning anything off the xbox connected to the internet immediately. Excellent brother, thanks for the tip.

No problem dude. But it still sound to me like you know more about this stuff than I do. But I found it helps sometimes just to have questions asked buy someone else to get the juices flowing. I wasn't even thinking about changing the MAC address. But I'm glad my question got you thinking in the right direction. _________________________________________________________
