So, I've got my DVD drive externalized and lengthened a power cable by hand. I've just gotten a 360 HD DVD player for a case for it(bought that as"broken" at ebay for cheap). I've got some adapters coming so I can plug the sata at the back of the HD DVD drive(and have a runner to the actual drive.)
Now I'm working on a solution for power. I've got 2 cables, my long modded one, and the backup from a set I'd bought. I'm having a hard time finding the motherboard headers anywhere to make a patch(or anything else that would work). Any suggestions or links would be helpful, I've got 7-10 days before the sata shows up anyhow.
Primarily I'm looking for a kit or parts so I can mount the plug as if it belonged on the back of the dvd drive, and run the short cable from inside the 360 to the back of the HD DVD case.

I do believe I'm going to go with DIN or mini-DIN connectors, female connectors at both DVD and console, that way I will never have mashed pins on those units and will just order a few cables.
Now for a place to buy them, preferably all from the same site.
Note, you can get by with as little as 7 active wires, by tying all of your grounds together.(So far as I've noticed anyhow.) 6, if you can ground to shielding, in theory.
*update*
In case anyone is interested.
Din's that match socket / cable are hard to find in the number of pins that I require. D-subs though are plentiful.(look like vga cables, varying number of pins)

If you are looking for a longer DVD Drive power cable for the XBOX360, you can buy them. Go to Google and type in Airflow Cables. The DVD Drive power cables they sell are 20 inches long and are exactly like the original Microsoft DVD Drive power cable but longer. They are around $10 for both cables (20 inch SATA cable and 20 inch Power cable).

I ended up using a VGA cable that had a slight ghosting problem because it was badly shielded, and Esata adapters, surface mounted at each box, and an esata cable to run between them. I couldn't find a straight up mountable adapter for a vga connector, so I basicly cut one in half and spliced each end to the xbox connecors. The HDDVD case with the DVD(game) drive is now completely unpluggable, though the deck itself has this vga cable that cannot be disconnected, been working fine since my last post in this thread.
Thanks for the replies even though it's an old thread. Will keep in mind for future use.
