Did you have a backup of your old drives unique key??? You will need this so you can flash it over to the new replacement.. _________________________________________________________ HQ Network:

Considering if you did a swap with the board to another drive that drive has to be same as yours like samsung to hitachi will not work. samsung to samsung will some people make this mistake.
What type of Drive do you have The original One and what is the one you put it into. More details the better the help you are going to get bud. _________________________________________________________ The one the only Scarface!!

So maybe that drive is bad too the one you got from your friend. or really check the cables to make sure everything is connected really good bud.
When you say you did the whole jf thing and that what did you exactly do as you could of bricked the drive and it would cause this too. _________________________________________________________ The one the only Scarface!!

first i did the whole set to mode b, then followed the "user guide for newbies" that i got for jf. and did everything like it sed to do. i thought maybe i didnt have wires all tight and looked at em, pulled em out and re-did them and still nothing. drive wouldn't stay in mode b at first.

Are you using onboard sata ports or pci did you install the correct ports also does the drive show up in jungleflasher, What windows operating system do you use. If its playing just movies and that you might of flashed it wrong and would need to reflash it.
I had problems for the longest time with hitachi drives on my xp mod computer and i had to actually use my main computer which runs windows 7 pro x64 bit and it flashed the drive and everything fine with the onboard sata ports were with the pci card in my mod computer it just would not read right in there. _________________________________________________________ The one the only Scarface!!

There is a few different hitachi drives did you make sure to spoof the drive so it acts just like your old one as there are like 5 or 7 different Hitachi versions _________________________________________________________ The one the only Scarface!!
