Hi everyone,
I've been testing out a QNAP NAS Server (External Storage) for sometime now and it has been fantastic for use with the Xbox 360 in HD.. The QNAP streams all your media directly to your devices on your home network..
This could be anything from your 360, xbox 1, psp, ps3, or pcs etc etc.
If you already have a wireless connection in your house then it will stream wirelessly throughout your house too..
Anyway, check them out.. We have several members who are running them already and have nothing but great things to say about them.

Thanks for the post, I am looking at one of these units. Just a couple of questions, the twonky server is that a fully paid up version or trial?. Also do you have any trouble streaming h.264/mkv files?

twonky is free.. I believe it is an opensource product..
Works great too btw.. I still use it all the time.

I use my home computer as a network server, as I found that most boxes that you can buy from futureshop/the source etc, just don't have enough storage space for all my needs, and the atom chip still struggles on full hd rips from blu-rays.
My specs for flawless streaming, both wired and wireless on xp 64bit
1 tb WD Black - not the green version
750 watt BFG Power supply
Asus P5W DH Deluxe - 1gb lan - skt775
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 ghz
Tversity as my media streamer and windows Media player for connection to XBMC (xbox 1 console)
CCCP codec pack - transcodes ALL videos great including the various .mkv containers with h.264 encodes
This has worked great for me, the biggest bother was running two routers - modem router for dsl and DHCP server , and my wireless n router as an access point.
The other thing I found was install tversity and leave it alone except for transcode when needed. The CCCP codec pack works great for both Tversity and WMP. If you keep your files on external usb HD, even then I have had no shuttering issues and the bonus was .mkv through Tversity played back great on my xbox1 console
Hope this gives another idea on what kind of specs to shoot for if you decide to go that way/upgrade instead of investing in a totally seperate box.

Yeh i used to run TVersity myself till i got my QNAP nas.
the NAS takes care of everything and there's not too many files that the 360 can't play these days..

I use a Universal Serial Bus stick. They are very good.
Bought a new samsung tv (new to me, been in the shops for about a year now) and you can plug usb hard drives straight in. Will play mkv files and even supports subtitles. Has DNLA so i can stream from the comp to.
It's amazing what they can do nowadays. I can remember when the remote for my video player had a lead

I know this is an older thread, but I have 2 Qnap 419p+'s with 4x4tb hdd in each running raid 5. They work great, have WD media streamers on all the tv's and am going to install the plugin for my RGH xbox's so they can play games from the NAS.
The Qnap products sure seem to be a quality product.

I now have 2 QNAP servers.. I have a QNAP 459 Pro with 4 x 2GB SCSI drives and my older QNAP 109 with 1 drive.. very cool devices.. Recommend them to anyone. _________________________________________________________ HQ Network:

I have not tried the camera function on mine so I couldn't comment on that feature. I have an older model (119) but it still runs fantastic for the rest of the features, and is great to transfer files on my home network.
