i just have a quick issue/question. here's the thing, i went to log onto live and it gave me an error message. i called xbox live to figure out the problem, and they said that my 360 had been banned for being modded. ok sounds justified right? yes it is, if my xbox was modded. the problem is i've never opened my xbox, downloaded patches or mods for it, ever. so i can't figure out why live would pick up the code that a modded xbox would send out casuing it to be banned. they said they can't help me at all. they won't even let me send it in so they can look at it and be proved that it's never been opened or tampered with. so all in all i have to buy a new xbox to be able to play online. my question is, has anybody had this happen to them or have heard of this happeneing, or is this like a once in a lifetime thing that my bad luck has brought on to me?

I've never heard of this, you could always file complaints against them with the BBB
I would demand to talk to a supervisor, because you should be able to send it in to verify it is not modded. Key tips
1) be angry, tell them their service is unacceptable
2) Demand to talk to a supervisor or manager if they are toying you around (if they say a supervisor isn't around ask for a time they will be and take their name and tell them that you are going to tell their supervisor/manager that they were extremely unhelpful and such)
3) keep on them, the bigger the fuss you make (news posts on various gaming hubs, xbox.com forum posts, constant phone calls to head office, etc)
And remember keep track of time you've spent on the phone total and when they finally hook you up with unbanning you etc then you peg em for free stuff because their service is unacceptable etc. usually you will get free xbox live or an arcade game or so, you just got to push for it.

I know this use to happen, and m$ would charge £100 or something for you to send it in and have it checked out. Money Grabbing Wankers i think the phrase is. _________________________________________________________ Opinions are like arse holes, everybody has one and your's stinks.

thanks for the advice. i've definetly talked to a manager and he gave me more attitude then the first person. i've almost kinda given up on it. i told them i would never buy another microsoft product, and they kinda laughed it off. thats not the only problem i've had with an xbox though. i have 2 xbox's one for the living room and one for the bedroom. when the wife is in the living room i play upstairs and vice versa. the other xbox got the RROD i sent it in. it took almost 2 months to get it a new one. i guess they sent me a different one, one with the hdmi output on it cause i had one of the first or second gen ones. about 4 months after i got the new one i got the e-74 error. so that one is out right now. then this banning thing happened and i just feel totally screwed by microsoft. i mean i don't think i will ever give up on the 360 cause i love it when it works, i just hate the company that makes it. i dont think i could live without my 360. i'm just irritated as hell

mspaugh04 hope you do get something sorted! i was just pondering how much i like my 360 and the featues - and how much i dont like ms! especially with the 360 and all the rrods, e74 and now random bannings! its a love hate relationship i guess :S darn it!
One question though do you have an intercooler, or one of those external fans?? its just that ive read ms can even check the temperature of the cpu and gpu and if its not running at what they expect ie its running alot cooler then what they usually do, then they could assume someones opened it and upgraded the fans.
And basically frozenfires absolutely right, kick of as much as possible in all my dealings with banks, buisness, debt people, ms lol, just keep nagging for higher and higher people til you get the answer YOU want, dont accept no as an answer. Good luck.

We'll see what happenes i'm gonna call them later today. I do run an Intercooler, I never thought of that. The Xbox live system can actually tell that your running at a lower temp? I did not know that. I've only come across a few people that have posted on random sights that the random banning has happened to. So i guess it's probably just a freak thing. But it's always my luck that something crazy like that would happen to me. Thanks for all the input guys. i'll see what i can do

no problems busforce - good luck getting it sorted. yeah i dont know if its just rumor or not, but i heard that its one way they catch modders - those using better cooling! i also read a rumor a while ago that not only do they have a ban option but that incase theres a massive break in security they can even send a kill command to the xbox 360 - i was really dubious on this, until i read its all about those fuses inside the box and if they blow all of them at once fizzzzzzt - dead xbox!
I've heard they can detect power usage (inter cooler normally sucks power from the system) but I've never heard of temperature reading because someone could be playing in an air conditioned (or a very cold room) and the xbox would be colder than standard temperatures. And even then there are different revisions of 360's that produced different amounts of heat so I doubt that is why.

If it is definately unopened and unmodded there is no reason for you NOT to send it back.. They will eat their words man..
Let me guess, you were speaking to some crazy indian lady?? lmfao..
Maybe try again and like the guys suggest ask to speak with a supervisor.
A modded console may mean one or all of the following:
- modified in anyway/shape or form
- Case Mod
- Lights
- Custom Soldiering/Additional Internals
- Firmware modded (DVDROM only) <<-- this is a no no for waranty.
eg. Casemod, lightmods, firmware mods (anything opening and breaking the warranty seal is bad news).
I have heard of a few guys from HQ who have casemods and not firmware and M$ let them get warranty no probs. _________________________________________________________ HQ Network:

If that is the case, what happens if you use a portable hard drive, the ones that power through the usb? Or do they not consume as much power as the intercooler? _________________________________________________________ Opinions are like arse holes, everybody has one and your's stinks.
