Hey guys,
Ok, so I am 65 hours into oblivion, and I had my first can't continue the game glitch.
Its the Daedra shrine of Clavicus Vile just SW of the Imperials City, west of the old bridge.
During the quest you go to find the Umbra sword (a sword with soul trap for 120 secs and coupled with the reusuable Azura's Star, you are able to keep recharge enchanted weapons easily.) But the part that glitches is when you try to "Return" the sword.
You really want to keep it, but you have to say you won't give it back. The shrine has a dog with it, Barbaras, who tries to convince you not to get the sword for Clavicus.
At this point, the game freezes when the dog statue is removed from your inventory and reappears back on the shrine.
I had so much trouble with this, but I found something on XBOX.com forums that worked.
The idea behind escaping this glitch it to not give anytime for the dog statue to reappear on the shrine with you there.
So, you have to first, drop the sword (it will be there later for you to pick it up) as soon as your conversation with the daedra is done. Then you will be fast travelling to another location and NOT MOVE, it froze on me everytime i moved. ( I fast traveled to the SW Temple District in the Imperial City.) If you did it correctly it shouldn't freeze and you will hear the dog talk, reminds me of the dark prince from Prince of Persia 3.

First, setup your journal so that your arrow is hovering over (I did like the author posted, the SW Imperial District) and could be clicked in a hurry to fast travel. Then, switch your journal to the umbra and leave it highlighted.
I at this point for the heck of it talk to the three worshippers.
Then talked to the daedra. As soon as you click "ok" to end the conversation, hit 'B' and drop and fast travel as quickly as you can. If you did it right you will here him talk, but don't move b/c I had it freeze on me. Stay still for a while. Once you figure you are safe, save it. When I tried to fast travel back, it froze on me, so I walked back.
Now, if you have a glitch or know how to get around one, PLEASE post it. Everyone needs some help and this is a big game. Good Luck

You have been going forever on this title.. I can wait to see exactly how long it takes you to finish it either.. Probably alot more hrs..

NVousMotorSports just finished last night, but I don't know how many dungeons and oblivion gates (before they closed, after the great oblivion gate gets closed)
But yea, going on 68 hours now, about 12 sigil stones (the prize for closing an oblivion gate, you use them to enchant a weapon or armor.)
I have done about 1/6 of the dungeons in the game, not involving main quest ones.
Its a lot of fun but I have to find something else to absorb my attention, this game could go on forever if they create lots of DC (Downloadable content), supposedly 2 are coming out soon, Orrery and the Wizard's Tower for 1.85 each. I was having freezing problems with Oblivion. Play for about 2 hours then freeze. This happen continually for about ten different play times. Then a few days later it no longer freezes. I have no clue why it was freezing and now why it works great again. Did you clear the cache without knowing it
Powering the 360 through the controller then holding down the "A" button till the Bethesda screen?
Also I have a small fan I setup near my xbox so it blows cool air at it. I have only had 4 unknown freeze ups all the rest were glitches. _________________________________________________________ XBOX v1.6

Also did you play any other games during this time? A lot of the other games will clear the cache so that they can load their own files into the cache to reduce their own loading times. _________________________________________________________

you're lucky you got around that glitch-I got stuck 40+ hours in because the stupid pressure plates in miscarcand wouldn't open the doors.I had to start a new one and do it all over again,first thing I did though was go to miscarcand and make sure the doors were working-so frustrating. _________________________________________________________ Halo LE Xbox
