Hey guys, This is a list of programs I recommend that are totally free, useful, and as long as I have been using them have never found them to cause any problems, contain any add ware, Trojans, viruses etc. There may be other cool programs I dont know about or better programs I dont know about but the following do work for me.
GOOGLE CHROME Web Browser. If you are using firefox and are happy you are probobly ok, but if you are still using internet explorer you will want to give this a try, has some great features and will really speed up your internet. Once installed it will be accessable by clicking on the icon on your desk top. It does not replace any programs, you can us it when you like or just click on your fire fox or internet explorer tab to use that program, it also uninstalls very easily and quickly if you do not, like it. I do not think it works on apple OS, but does work for Vista and XP for sure.
YouTube Downloader\
This is a must have program! this lets you download videos from youtube to your computer, and also videos from lots of other sites. You can also convert media files to other files. For instance here is how you can use it to get free music MP3 files. Open the youtube downloader, go to a site like youtube, find a music video of a song you like that has good sound quality, copy the videos address, run your pointer over the youtube downloader addy bar (the addy will past automaticly) click ok and the file will download to your desktop.
Now you have the video file, you can now go on your youtube downloader and click on convert file, and pick from a list of what you want to convert it to, Mp3, Ipod etc etc etc, then choose that video file and it converts to a sound mp3 file that is now able to be played on your pc, burned to a CD or downloaded to your MP3 player. It is a totaly free program and so easy to use. There are other programs that can download but this one can convert as well. Note.. Before adding a youtube addy to the downloader I add &fmt=18 to the end of the addy to make sure I get the highest quality version, this is important when converting to audio., Also when you convert to audio you will get a choice of what quality to use to convert to MP3, from Low To High, I recomend using LOW when converting to Audio as it makes the mp3 a much smaller file size but you will not notice any audio quality loss at all, you could not tell the difference between a high quality and low quality MP3.
OpenOffice.org If you are like me and got a PC that did not come with Windows Office, then this is the program for you, it has all the programs that Windows office has but is totally free. I use this program to do word documents, power point presentations, and Spread sheets.
AVG Anti-Virus free If you have a high end payed for Anti-Virus you are fine, if not, I recomend this AVG free, it is considered the best free antivirus program out there, I have used it for a couple years and have never had any problems.
Cam Studio This is a simple program that lets you record things happening on your computer screen, its a screen capture video program, I dont do alot where I use it for that such as PC tutorials, Recording PC gameplay etc. I use it to record my favorite Radio program. I Find a site that streams my radio program, start up cam studio, go to its options where you pick screen size region to record and choose a tiney 3 x 3 pixles, and set fram rate to 1 frame every 2 minutes, and turn on record audio from speakers. Then go off and do my own thing.
This makes the file size very small visually, but gets all the audio, when the program is over. I stop the recording, save to my desk top, then use the youtube downloader to convert file to MP3, now I can listen to the program on my own time on my MP3 player. You have seen my Video of HOMER PLAYS HALO right?, I used cam studio to record the video off of HULU which is a site that you can not use programs like youtube downloader on. You can see the video did not come out as smooth as original but it did work good enough.
Fraps Fraps if you dont already know about it, lets you record game play on your PC and also runs a counter on your screen top in the corner displaying your current frame rate. The free version only lets you record for a minute at a time, you can later buy full version to unlock full time recording but I never needed the full version.
Future Mark This is a program that you download, then click on it when you are ready to test your gaming pc. It will automaticly run you PC through a bunch of testing, will run some graphic intense programs, do some uploading and downloading, test video player and a bunch of other stuff all at once all by itself, then give you your PC score. It basicly benchmarks your overall system. A very cool program, you can even watch as it runs some graphic programs like hundreds of falling boxes in a room.
If anyone knows of any other free useful programs that are add ware and Virus free and do not screw with your computer in any way, please feel free to add.

Maybe wouldn't be a bad idea to post this also on pc-hq..
