There is no way to tell when or how long it will take ms to for ms to ban anyone, when you mod your system, you violate the terms of service for xbox live, Hence why you may or may not get banned, if you mod your system you must take that risk. why not do a dual boot config.

That way when you not on live you can power your system on with original firmware.

Also as far as it being worth modding, thats up to you. I took one of my RROD / error 0102 systems, and modded it. it was worth it for me, cuz now i can keep my games up in my safe. so my son dont ruin my originals. I only need to pull my originals out when i play xbox live. As i wont use my modded box online.

Hope this helped

The only thing you may need to worry about is the fall update. But there will probably be a new firmware update before then or even after. I M$ really wanted to get everybody I bet they probably could. But I think they have pretty much gave up on detecting flashers.
