2 red lights on their own is VERY bad, that means the CPU is overheating and can and most likely WILL fry the 360 altogether, and you can bet that M$ will be charging ALOT more than $99 to fix it then. Did you properly ground yourself when you were touching the motherboard? if not that might explain why you shorted out something, just strange that only part of it shorted, and not the entire thing. If you want my opinion, send it back to M$ now, and tell them it has a RROD even if it doesn't. Think about they probably don't check every 360 that gets sent into them, they probably just crack it right open and get to fixing it, remember they are on a production line and they have a quota of work to meet every day...simple industry logistics.
What's the worst that can happen? They say it doesn't have a RROD and send it back to you free of charge! It's a win/win situation in my opinion. You can't play it properly right now and you need it fixed, and if they won't fix it, they'll send it right back to you, remember the postage box they send you is FREE!!!
just my 2 cents. _________________________________________________________ Predtech

ok burner, one of the wires from old ethernet cord, meaning when you strip it that you take just one of those wires that are twisted together?
and another question, do i still have to use that plug?
Im going to attempt that mod on my stock fan first and see if it will work before cutting up my whisper and this will happen tomorrow if it works i will be sure to finish my mods and show off my xbox when im done.

Yes just take one of those wires that are twisted together out and use just one.

Yes you will still need the plug as it supply's the ground for fan. Since you only need to cut the positive wire you will still plug that back in where it was.
