Well sad to say but my 360 Elite is going tits up on me. The Oblivion game is starting to skip really bad and the drive is making a loud grinding noise. Good news is I bought a Best Buy product replacement plan! Which means I just go and switch out my elite for a new one. Also I am going to insist on seeing the box first to make sure I am getting a falcon chipset like Wes did. Anyhow I would like to request a moment of silence for my 360 elite. If anyone would like to play taps now is a good time to do it. Okay well thanks for that. Anyhow all I need to look for on the new box is a 175 watt power supply yes? I mean the falcons run off 175 yes? Thanks guys for the moment of silence and the moral support! You guys are the best. I have to go now my wife says I am going to ruin the laptop keyboard with my tears. _________________________________________________________
Okay I might have jumped the gun on this one. I put another game in the elite and it ran like clockwork! No skips and no loud noises. Has anyone else heard about oblivion making the disc drive louder and the game having skips in it? I know that you are supposed to press the (A) button when the game is booting to clear the hard drive cache and that has always seemed to stop it from happening but now that I am in shivering isles it is skipping alot and pausing in little segments. Not for more then a second but enough to get irritating. Anyone else have this problem? _________________________________________________________
Clear the cache in the system memory blade that should fix it considering shivering isles is ran off the hdd and not the disk so its not the disk drive. _________________________________________________________

Dont get me wrong oblivion is one of my favorite games, BUT (there always has to be a BUT) it makes my 360 sound like a jet is taking off in my games room. It even gets my missus coming in asking "WTF are you doing"

LMFAO! Maybe the disc drive has to work harder to play the game because it is always accessing something? Maybe that is why the disc drive sounds like a a jet engine. Like I said it doesn't do it with other games just oblivion. _________________________________________________________
Also food for thought is the fact that I didn't start having problems until I put my system horizontal. Meaning laying down instead of standing up. As soon as I moved it back to its much cooler looking standing position the problems stopped. I know about it supposedly running much cooler when it is laying flat due to the fact that one of the major air flow points is covered when standing but my system doesn't really have a problem with getting hot. So I am going to keep it standing as this seems to fix the problem. Anyhow worst case scenario I just have to go switch the system at Best Buy. God I love thier product replacement plan. It might cost a little more but in the long run it pays for itself. Anyhow I have to get ready for work. Today I am removing tint from some storefront windows. Can you say fun??? Ahh well that is why I get paid the big bucks! _________________________________________________________
Hey I know I must have asked this question before but I am going to ask again. Better to be safe then sorry. Anyhow by clearing my hard drive cache at the memory blade do I lose any game saves or just the updates? I really wouldn't want to lose 100's of hours of oblivion play. I am silly that way. Or demo's for that matter? _________________________________________________________
nope you keep everything on your hard drive (saves, demos, etc) except for the updates. So all you will have to do is download the updates the first time you pop a disc in. After that you should be golden _________________________________________________________

I know this doesnt apply to this thread but it may be helpful for someone out there, so here goes.
The problem with throwing your HDD into another 360 is that the rights for the content are somehow attached to the MAC address on the 360.
This means all of your downloaded content wont work on the new 360 unless you are hooked up to live.
Found this out after my original 360 kicked the bucket (RROD). Went to play some of my XBLA games and it kept saying they were trial games, that is until I connected to live and BLAMMO full games were back.
This may be helpful for people who bought or plan to buy a new 360.
Can anyone tell me wether the 120gb HDD transfer cable fixes this??
