I am new to the xbox 360 I picked one up off ebay to fix as a hobbie
it had the 3 rol well I got that fixed went online downloaded demos and played. Problem is the rom it will play cds and movies but when i put a game in it tells me to put the game in a xbox can anyone help I don't know if I need a replacement laser or something else

Well done on fixing the rrod, doing one myself at the moment, hope i have as much luck.
Did you try flashing the DVD drive? Are they original versions of the games you are trying to play? _________________________________________________________ Opinions are like arse holes, everybody has one and your's stinks.
It is probably something as simple as your dvd drive lens needs to be cleaned. Try taking off the lid of the dvd drive and using a qtip with isopryl alcohol on it. That should take care of the problem. If not then you will probably need a new dvd drive laser assembly. _________________________________________________________

I can't flash the drive because my computer dosn't have sata I play my backups on the original xbox with a xenium gold mod chip. However the xbox360 is not modified so just originals.

Are we talking about xbox 1 games or xbox 360 games? To play xbox 1 games i believe you need a hard drive attached and the appropriate updates installed. Not all xbox 1 games work on the 360. There are lists on the net of which games work but not sure how to go about getting the updates.

the only xbox 360 game i have is rock band and it works on a 360 i got from the store however the 360 from ebay that had the 3rol it says this is a xbox 360 game to play disc put it in a 360 console. the console will play cd, and dvd no problem. it will play demos downloaded to the hdd. it will not play game disc. I tried a cleaning disc and taking the cover off the rom and using lens cleaner and qtip still no luck. I don't want to buy a laser replacement untill I know if someone else had the same problem and it worked.

Okay well just like the old xbox dvd drives when they start only playing cd's and dvd's that means that the laser assembly is going tits up. Usually the qtip lens cleaning will do the trick but if not then your laser assembly is going out. You can get a laser assembly for your 360 dvd drive for fairly cheap. At least your whole dvd drive didn't go bad on you. Then you would be in trouble. But as far as what you should do that is the only suggestion I know of. Look on Ebay or llama.com for laser assemblies. Just get the laser assembly that matches your dvd drive and pop that bad boy in there and you should be good to go! Also if the new laser does not work then and you did not try to modify it any way F/W at all then i am pretty sure the guy you got it from did and messed it up and if so you pretty much got a dvd player. Hope the laser cures it sometimes you can also adjust the laser and that fixes the problem too.
