I know this is going to date me but what the hell, thought it would be a fun thread, Was curious where everyones intrest in gaming began.
As for me, I started very early, In Ventura California, we lived right on the beach, there was A burgar stand where the surfers hung out, I was about 6. Those guys were like super heros to us little kids so we would follow them arround, The burgar stand added a little wood building to its side and installed a bunch of video games, these were pretty new and I got hooked on Asteroids, Donky Kong and Centipede. I think I was addicted from the start, I would do odd jobs for the neighbors like take out the old ladies trash for quarters here and there for gaming money.
Then one fine day I got a brand spanking new Atari 2600 for Xmas for something like $99. Pack Man was my money earner, as me and the other neighborhood kids would play 2 player packman for 10 cents a game each, winner take all. I was damn good!. But the mexican kids that lived down the alley would never let me leave their house with my winnings, sore losers, I could have taken them but they had a sister that was a bit nuts and a freak giant.
We totaly had an underground pac-man gambling ring. Of course my earnings would be spent on Centipede and Donky Kong.
One of the older kids figured out how to take the back off the Arcade games and get access to the box of quarters inside. which we saw as nothing more than fule to run the games. so we would pass handfuls out to all the other kids in the arcade to keep them quite, I bet the owners were realy confused why the place was allways full and so active but they never seemed to make much proffit.
I started when i was 4 or 5. My mom got a free NES from her boss that had 2 controllers, a bunch of games, and the original box! Not to mention the light zapper too. I started playing Super mario bros from then on. When i was 5 i was able to use all the of shortcuts to get to level 8-2 (which i would run out of time on lol). I figured out all of the shortcuts myself, which is hard for a 5 year old. Then when i was 8 my friend had gotten a playstation for christmas. I went over there and played it and was hooked. My mom made me get rid of the NES (which sucked) to get the ps1, but i got it. From then on i've been hooked.
BTW, i've gotten another NES now but its not in nearly as good of shape. _________________________________________________________

I started about 8 on my brothers Atari 2600 (by then it was pretty old), but it died and I didnt get a another console until the master system (Alex the Kidd was cool)came out. After the master system i went on to the Sega Mega Drive (streets of rage ate most of my time up) or Genisis as it was called in the states. After that came the N64 which was awesome (Goldeneye and Perfect Dark rocked). Next one was a Sega Dreamcast (Shenmue OMFG), then the Xbox (Halo 1 & 2) and now a 360. I have been playing video games for a good 22yrs now, I just freakin love them.

Cant remember when i exactly started but i do remember getting my first Atari 2600 game for my birthday in like 1982-1983 (well, whatever year E.T Extra Terristrial came out).. 1983 i think, i was like 7.
Here is the list in order of what i gamed on.
- Atari 2600 (6-7 year old)
- C64 Commodre
I started with the 2600 and had all the consoles up to the xbox 1, the only one i never got and regret it is the DC.
On a side note Hobbs the C64 Commodre is going to be put on the Wii as DLC.

My first encounter with gaming was when I was about 8 or 9. It was the '73 or '74. The fam was in a skating ring in Richmond, VA. There it was, on the side wall. A PONG console. As big as a refrigerator! It was on after that. That christmas, I got a thing called "Channel F" (predates Atari) It had every imaginable game that could be construed into the 'ol 2 white lines surrounded by other boundry configurations of white lines. That was the last I had until I moved to my grandparents when I was fourteen. When I turned 15 they got me a console that I can't even remember the name. It wasn't as cool as the as the Atari 2600's and it quickly went under with no game support. I never did get an Atari. Grrrr. But, I did benefit from a friend leaving his Colecovision at my house. But, by then I was a mischievous teenager that snuck out of his house at night and walked or biked downtown to play video games like Galaga at the 24 hour convenient store. We put tuna fish cans under the pinball legs so the ball wouldn't go down the middle. Finally, the BigTee(burger joint) got an Asteroids console. I spent every cent of my(and everybody else's) money in that thing. I got so good that I could play until I had extra ships lined all the way across the top and a second row too. My eyes would be jittering and blurry. I would have to turn it over to my friend. LOL That's my game of fame. My grandfather soon followed suit and got a couple of consoles in his resturaunt. Space Invaders and Frogger. Of course, I worked there and played when I wasn't supposed to be. Aced those too. Finally, the whole town exploded with arcade systems. Donkey Kong, Pac Man, Ms. Pac Man, the "ORIGINAL" (before NES) Mario Bros.
Man! Those were the days. other consoles that followed...8bit Genesis, NES, SNES, 16bit Genesis, 32bit Genesis, Playstation, Dreamcast, XBOX and now 360. Sorry for the essay guys. But, if y'all know me, you know I write a book on everything. Plus, I'm just that damned OLD! LMAO _________________________________________________________ Don't give up! I feel better now. I thought I was the old dog here, but most of us seem to be in the same age range. Now if xbox live could impliment some kind of age matching option when joining online games that would be great.
Some day Im going to start an old farts clan [OFC].
On the Asteroids game, I Loved that game, but only on the full size system. the desk top and tv versions just dont feel right.
Same thing with centipede, my favorite game, I loved the sound on that game, whamp,whamp,whamp,whamp,whamp.... Like an intense heart beat, But again I need the full version with the spinning ball to controll movement.

Where to start? I myself starting playing video games when pong first came out and have owned every system that ever came out at least twice! I did play in the arcades until they would kick me out for fighting! I wasn't a bully by any means I used to beat up the bullies! Anyhow I used to loving whooping arse on Galaga! And dragon's lair was off the hook graphically! I currently own the following systems Nintendo 8 bit, 2 original playstations, 7 fully working original xboxes,Dreamcast, gamecube, wii, playstation 2 and 2 360's! To say I am into gaming is a understatement. My fellow co workers would rather drink beer and chase women but I would rather chill out at my house and play games. It keeps me out of trouble and is much safer. Anyhow yeah I am one of the older gamers. White hairs more and more each year! I am 38 years old and still gaming until 4am in the morning on weekends. You have all seen me on live I suppose. Anyhow just wanted to put my two cents in here. You know except for being sore in the morning and not healing as fast as I used too I still feel young! Oh and this has nothing to do with gaming but I have officially not smoked a cigarette in 3 weeks! This is a record for me! I am hoping to get in better shape then I already am after my lungs get cleaned out and start practicing martial arts again. Heck I might even open my own dojo! Who knows? I am eating like a horse since food tastes so much better and saving a hell of alot money not too mention feeling healthier! This had nothing to do with video games but I am quite proud of myself! _________________________________________________________

HERE, HERE!!! Congratulations on that. I myself haven't smoked since I was 12. LOL But, I've often carried the banner on many crusades against smoking. And I live in the TOBACCO belt. It's our cash crop. LOL _________________________________________________________ Don't give up! NEVER give up. -- Jim Valvano
