hey everyone..ive been a long time member of xbox-hq and i have softmodded all my original xboxs with the splinter cell exploit. i just got my 360 about a week ago with Gears of War...excellent game!
anyway my question is...why cant i play all the original xbox games or the backups i made for the original? and what can i do to fix this...possibly without opening this bad boy? also about the second time i played Gears of War (for about an hour) my 360 froze up and i had to turn it off. are there any mods i can do..like a big fan to help keep it cool? because it almost melted my original xbox a/v cord lol! or can i overclock the fan speed somehow?
thanks for your help in advance

Well theres lots you can do with your 360's already in the form of modding..
YOu can add all sorts of case mods, fans, lights etc etc..
We are doing our best to provide all the tutorials we can find with detailed specs and info for all our users in our xbox tutorials area here:
When it comes to modding for homebrew on 360 there isnt currently any.. .. You can install a modhcip or flash your firmware so you can backup your originals but thats about it.
anyway, hope that explains some stuff for ya.
glad to see another xbox-hq member make the leap to the new 360-hq website too.

The only way to play original backups is by installing a mod chip, or flashing your dvd rom drive. We have tutorials, read, read, read, and it will all make sense eventually I promise!
Some original xbox games don't work due to compatibility issues. we have a chart here somewhere showing compatibility. Search to the best of your ability, and if you want something in specific please shout, and i'll get you started in the right direction. It's really too bad that xbox 360 wasn't launched without complete backwards compatibility, but we received enough good out of it for it to be worth it!

PS: the xbox 360 cannot currently be used to play backups without opening up the beast, nor will it probably be capable of doing this. Someday the game system makers will realize ingenuity is inevitable, and they'll make a diagnostic slot so we don't have to take it apart. _________________________________________________________ Brandon Cossette

Bit of a noob question here but is anyone sure about which xtreme version is best to use since the Fall update (which is known to cause error 66)? Say for example if you had a samsung ms25, should you use the latest 5.2 or 3.3 and what process to do it in if you haven't updated yet?

Just a bit of an update on some info I found out from talking to a business that does mods down here in Aussie land. Apparently if you have xtreme 3.3 or below on a ms25 drive OR xtreme 4.0 or above on a ms28 then the "fall" update shouldn't give you an E66 error. If you do then, the experts may not be living up to their name.

I was thinking the new 5.2 could work on either drive. Think the problem was more a MS28 drive with a firmware based on a MS25 dump. (3.3 or lower seems to be the right number) I wasn't sure if MS25 with higher was a problem as it may just see it as an update not as a hack.
Just make sure to back up the original firmware, if you flash with the latest, it doesn't work, you can always reflash. _________________________________________________________

Thanks for the help. I've been reading up on the the new NME360 chips and they seem like a great alternative to firmware hacking/flashing and also if Microsoft do anything else with updates down the track.
