dude at work got the RROD on his 360 and sent it to MS for repair. they sent it back saying that he tampered with the unit and voided the warranty. apparently the warranty label was not broken but totally not there. he's not a tech like myself and claims he never fooled with it. anyway he argued with MS over it and they had it sent back for another inspection, in the meantime he buys another. MS sends it back still saying he tampered with it. he's mad of course but then he out of the blue asked me if i wanted to bricked box since i like tearing into things all the time.... of course i said yes and then he asked what i was gonna do with it..... my response was that i had plans on making it into an R/C car and taking it to the track... YEAH RIGHT! sooooo i'm going to the hardware store to get my bolts and washers to fix that nasty xclamp.....
Id love for someone i know to do that. I got a DVD drive, case and metal case sitting around from my old one just waiting for a mobo to go into it! _________________________________________________________

i followed the DIY instructions but still got RROD.
**HAHAHAHAHA! I doubled up the nylon washers and BAM!!!! FREEBIE!!!!
*** after putting it back together the RROD came back... just my luck..i wonder if my having used flat steel washers instead of steel spring washers may have something to do with it....
Id give that a try. Did you do both the GPU and CPU? What is the error code code it is giving you? (like 1020 or something lke that). _________________________________________________________

I did gpu and cpu.
all i get is 3 red rings. no error code is being displayed on my monitor.
Is your PSU a 175W or a 205W (think that is what it is). The newest consoles will only run off a 175W power supply, and will RROD if it has the 205W one. Same with the older ones. If you have a 175W instead of a 205W it will RROD.
It has to do with the power somehow since 0003 is a power problem. _________________________________________________________

so i took everything apart, cleaned the grease off the cpu and gpu and put on new grease, replaced the flat washers with spring washers and now i get 0020 as soon as i turn it on. now i have bolt + spring washer into mobo then nylon washer and flat washer on other side to help it from bulging the mobo when i tighten the screws... should i do it another way?
i'm doing the overheating now and will know more in a few mins.
