Hi all,
Introduction
Before I start to explain the symptons my xbox 360 has had and explain how to fix them just remember that my console is over 2 years old now and has done 1000's of hrs of service.. lol
I must be one of the lucky guys eh..
Anyway, I just thought id share with you some info about some problems id been having and how i went about fixing some of them.
I never had a issue at all with any of my 360 consoles and it had been used to review tonnes of games and other content for the xbox 360 over the past few years as im sure you can all imagine. Well, about 2 months back i got the infamous 3 red rings of death.. That's not too bad it hought since i could try the x-clamp-fix.com on it and fix that.. (which i did).
But now i got 2 rrod.. WTF?? lol
Well to trouble shoot i removed the entire mainboard from its metalcasing and put it back together on my desk.. To my surprise the 360 would run flawlessly on the desk for as long as i wanted..
Problems I Had
1. 3 RROD
Constant 3 Red Rings.. No matter what.
2. 2 RROD while in metal casing (fine sitting outside with fans on)
When the system turned on you could instantly hear the fans revving up to maximum speed.. This was telling me there was a short or something loose..
btw.. The machine would run for hrs out of the casing.
How I Fixed:
1. The 3 RROD is quite easy to fix with the right replacement screws and washers. www.x-clamp-fix.com can provide the exact gear you need so visit them if want to try to fix your 3 red rings yourself.. I recommend giving it a try as its very straight forward and may save you some money.
2. The 2 RROD stumped me for a few days.. I couldn't understand why my 360 was working perfectly before i attempted the x-clamp-fix but then i realized that the board was slightly tilting on the left hand side where the x-clamp-fix was fitted. It was obviously shorting out and causing the temperature sensor to give a false reading.
I placed some electrical tape under where the xclamp was fitted so that the screws were now level, touching the bottom as they should be and the motherboard looked fine then.. i tested it and it worked perfect!
I would like to add my fix here also with the 2 red lights...
I also fixed the 3 red lights with the xclamp fix and it was working fine while it was in the case, i did have to drill out the holes where the screws were because i used different screws.
I had to replace the xclamp on the cpu as well with little bolts and tighten it down just right on each screw or it would give me the 2 red lights and fans speed up then shut down, or 3 red lights.
It would give me the 2 red lights wether it was in the case or not, it was being stubborn about things and was all about tightening the bolts just right on the cpu, i started off by tightening them really tight then it gave me 3 red lights, so i loosened them little by little til it worked properly. _________________________________________________________

I put the x-clamp fix on my old console back in start of november. Well it started freezing a lot again last week and got RROD again. So i ended up breaking it. It starts out as 1 red light in bottem right corner, then turns to 2 red lights. So i bought a new one.
Any reason why the x-clamp fix worked for 3 weeks then stopped again? _________________________________________________________

Have you tried tweaking with it??
I bet if you give it a try you will get it working.
I didnt do it properly the first time and it came back for me again.
But i just pulled apart and adjusted the screws. _________________________________________________________ HQ Network:

Well a big problem with that... my dad had to make a straight line through it so we could use a regular screw driver to screw it down tight. This was because it was slipping on the stock bit. So we made it work with a normal screw driver. Well as my dad was tighining down the last screw he slipped and nocked off 4 transistors under the gpu....so i think its unfixible. If there is any way i could get more transistors and somehow solder them on (magically i guess) id try it. _________________________________________________________
im sure if you can manage to get the same type transistors back on there it MIGHT work, unless the traces in the board got messed up too...just my opinion on it tho _________________________________________________________

Nah one of the cpu transistors got broke off on one side, so ill just press that one down. The traces look fine on the bottem, only transistors gone. _________________________________________________________
