Well my DVD drive is doing something odd and i need help. All of my old xbox games and all of my 360 games boot up fine on my 360, expect gears of war. When i put in gears of war, it makes little reading noise, then goes into a screen that says "to play this disk put it into an xbox 360 console", and says atteping to read media at the bottem of the screen. Then if i leave that screen and go back to the dashboard it tells me gears is a DVD. If i try any of my other games it boots up right away. With gears it takes 10+ tries. Maybe its my disk? My disk has little wear and tear on it though.

Is gears a "backup" ? If so, it could of been a bad burn. or is it original?

When did you get the game? Right when you purchased gears, did it make those noises and would not load right? If thats the case, then that copy is probally bad.

Ive had the game disk since late June. It worked fine until saturday night. I went and ate dinner, then came back. I got into an online match and right before the game started it said my disk was dirty and i needed to clean it. So i did. I put it back in and it worked fine. Then on sunday when i turned it on it said it was a dvd on the dash. I took it out and played halo 3 most of the day. Then yesterday is when it started to do this.

Yup, if it's acting up on h3 and gears, then it's your dvd drive lol. But check you cables hooked up in your drive, re-connect them or replace them before you buy a new drive. Cool

Ok, well would either of these work:

1. Take apart my dvd drive and clean the lens and see if it helps.

2. I found a replacement lens on mod-chip.com and was wondering if this would be a good way to fix it. I only ask this because i never bought the warrenty for the console and the warrenty sticker is off of it. This way would be cheaper and i would not have to worry about all the MS bs i hear so much about (takes 4 weeks to repair, etc).

Been busy, have school. Try cleaning the lens, if it still acts up then replace the lens. Jbrizzel
