FIrst off I will admit im new to the idea of using backed ups of games. but just curious why special drives and firmware are needed to be added to the 360, isnt this what MS detects and how they know who to bann?
I was curious why you cant just use a couputer to make a copy/clone ( backup) of your game then just play it on the 360, if it is an exact duplicate then how would the 360 or MS know the difference? after all every copy of halo2 on the store shelves is are duplicates of each other i believe, unless each disc has somekind of embeded individual code. but couldnt this be duplicated on a new disc and played like the origional without having to modd your 360.
as you can tell Im not too up to date on the subject, so if anyone knows a good site that explains how all this works in not to techy terms please post the addy

the data from disc to disc is exactly the same, but the media (surface the laser reads) is different and microsoft disables reading of any other media other than xbox 360 retail media.
when you flash your firmware it just basically tricks your hardware into thinking burnable media is xbox 360 retail media.
the laser on the drive actually sniffs the media to distinguish the different...it actually smells it....
ok, kidding
