Do the 360's really have this problem anymore? I'm thinking about buying one like the middle of June. I don't want this thing going bad on me. I'm going to be putting it upstairs and it's like high 70's up there. I will have a tower fan blowing on it as well. Also, should I set it horizontal or vertical (carpet floors?)

They still have heating problems, were you just talking about carpet floors to state that it is a bit hot up there, or were you planning on sticking it on the floor? If you have a fan blowing on it/direction you should be good with heat issues.

I was going to put it on a carpet in a warm area with a tower fan blowing on it. I was just wondering if that was ok. Also, would it still be good if I laid it horizontal?

I wouldn't suggest putting it on carpet. Better safe then sorry in my book. Dont matter if its standing or laying if you have a fan on it.

I'm going to purchase the Intec fan stand to sit it on. This will drastically cool my system and still like me play on the carpet.
Thanks for the help.

If you go that route then you'll be ok. It draws air in from the sides and blows up into the case. Not sure how much air is forced up, but better then stock.

I think for ventilation it is better lying flat and elevated off the surface an inch or so, I have mine flat, and 2 thin wood shims an inch thick on the front and back so it is elevated about an inch off the ground and the bottom is open to air., I have an inter cooler on it and a separate fan blowing at it from the side, this helps supply the side intake vent with fresh air and move the warm air that comes out the back of the box away from the system so the hot air does not get recirculated. With out the fan on the side i can put my hand on top of the console and feel the warmth, but with the fan on the side it is nice and cool., also to increase the airflow out of the box I cut away most of the mesh on the intercooler to cut down on resistance, I have a pic below of that but it looks better now, it is cleaned up and I smoothed out the cut, as you can see I had to recut to go arround where the screws for the intercoolers fans attach to the intercoolers body. I cut too high the first time but luckily it still held and yes I do notice better airflow coming out the back now. you can tell I was not going for looks on the cheap intercooler. also along the seam between the intercooler and 360 I placed tap to make air tight, hoping to increase the suction out of the box more, even if it adds 1/10 degree C of cooling, I will take every bit I can get. I have had my box in the shop once already.

I just use the Xcm air cooler with the addon fan, with a cut out above my addon fan and my temps never go over 45C on either the gpu or cpu. Easy and looks good, I've heard of the intercooler scorching you ran into that problem game?

I have heard that too, but no I have not had any problems with the intercooler. I was going to ask you how you measured the temps but I just looked up your XCM fan, pretty sweet setup, But Im waiting for the warrenty to run out then Im going to try water cooling it just for the hell of it, Wondering If mineral oil will cool as well as the cooling fluids, it would cut down on the danger of shorting out the system if there were ever a leak.

Xcm Air cooler comes with the lcd in the back, that connects rf to the fan that has two heat sensors you affix in your case. I'll put up pictures here in a second. Killing terrorist atm.
